This is the only place I would pay $20 for breakfast. Why? I'll tell you why... 1. The Space. 2. The Service. 3. The Food. The layout and floor plan just lifts. You know when you walk into a space, wherever it might be, and at times you either feel heavy and bothered, or ... light and comfortable? With this little eatery, the Feng Shui is on and an unburdened pump of positivity is present. So, this amazingly bright place is met immediately with smiles and continued great service. I can confidently say that this is the first place that has served me scrambled eggs the way I make them myself at home (Yes, I do actually cook :|). I asked for soft scrambled, and not only were the eggs juicy but fluffy...layers and layers of oil free, juicy well seasoned scrambled eggs. Perfection. The bacon I always ask for extra crispy, cuz limp bacon is just....well...criminal. And extra crispy I got and again not too oily or salty....just damn right. The hash browns were crispy on the outside and flakey soft on the inside like every pan fried potato should be, and the sausage was....well...like every breakfast sausage is at its best. I was actually surprised how good their food was. I was expecting less even at best. You know...after the pandemic many standards have dropped across the board with all industries across the globe. This was a nice refreshing surprise. There are two other branches of The Basic. One on Denman and the other on Davie. This one is by far the best of the three. They were also playing gently in the background songs that are part of my personal playlist I listen to...so that made the morning even better. Read more

Disappointing strawberry Belgian waffles. The waffles were stale/reheated with some fridge/freezer burn taste, unlikely to be made in house. The strawberry sauce was extremely cold and so the waffles became soggy and cold immediately, I couldn't finish it due to the stale taste. Whipped cream, sausages and bacon were fine.

Second time coming here after finally finding a restaurant that has delicious pan-fried potatoes! Service is always great, pleasant lady, fast with coffee refills. We got the Brit and the Tofu Egg Scramble, subbing out a salad this time for a healthier option. Huge and tasty portions, they also have ... sourdough bread! Overall, I would come back to try other items, the location is easy to find, there's always tables available and parking is very cheap along Main Street. 3 stars because the food is very greasy and the price is a bit higher than other diners. This is a great diner if you want classic breakfast or lunch. Blueberry pancakes were delicious and hash browns were crispy. Service was excellent. Corned beef sandwich was also very tasty.
