No. 1 Dumpling - Vancouver, British Columbia

Apparently the cooks aren’t working there anymore since covid. I was just served cold soggy noodles with a scoop of peanut butter and floppy bok coy. Ordered fried dumplings and received waterlogged ones instead. Everything was microwaved. Warm Diet Coke covered in dust. I was truly speechless when this was ... served to me. I walked out of a restaurant for the first time in my life. I don’t like writing bad reviews but this was totally unacceptable. It’s a shame because I love dumplings and really wanted to support. Food - Delicious. nothing else to say other than that... they were just GREAT Service - Different story. No hi's or hello's from our server. No refill on our water. Also messed up our order (gave us the wrong kind of pancake, mixed up the steaming and panfrying of our different ... dumpling orders). Never checked up on us during our meal. If it wasn't for the food... I wouldn't come back. You wouldn't come here for the service though, so just deal with the grumpy server and enjoy the food! Read more

A hole in the wall with a large variety of dumplings. We order various dumplings - steamed, pan fried and of course the xiao long bao (soup dumplings) - all were fresh and delicious. They also serve a few additional noodle and side dishes. Food was satisfying ... and price is decent. The restaurant itself looks a bit old and rundown - go for the food, not the atmosphere. Dingy hole in the wall. Obviously took over a former sushi place. It’d be a much more enjoyable place if they’d put a bit of investment into renovations. The food itself is alright. We had the meatball soup which was tasty but super simple. The green onion oil noodles had ... no taste at all. The pork, shrimp and leek dumplings were fresh and delicious. I’d go back to try other dumplings. Hopefully if they get some business then they will consider renovations. Seriously bad ambience. Read more

Tasty food. Dumplings can be cooked in 3 ways - steamed, boiled or pan fried. They are all good. Appetizers are good too! Tasty cucumber, cloud ears and soybean noodle. Try having the dumplings with soy sauce and a bit of chili oil as northern China would eat - good ... accompaniment. Read more
