I very rarely give anywhere a poor rating. I used to enjoy a few trips to TAPshack each summer but something has changed. They now exclusively serve you by getting you to scan a QR code that is attached to the tables. They ask you to give your tip before you see ... your food or waiter, and have the standard 18/20/22 suggestions. I'm usually a very generous tipper, fill my tummy and refill my water a few times and you're looking at 30%+ so i can make up for being a solo diner, but how unbalanced does it become if waiters receive their tip before food even arrives? Both trips this summer I only saw my waiter when they dropped off food, is that worth 20%+ of an already pricey meal? there are no drink refills, no customer service. If there were a clear label that the tips are fully shared with the cooks to restore balance I would be for it, but still only if the tip is at the end of the meal. Look at these disgusting nachos that cost me 30$ (photo attached, zoom in because the thumbnail looks tasty but the food itself was dry as heck- I barely ate the top right corner, I didn't touch the rest), I paid 5$ for extra cheese and 4$ for the chicken, on top of the regular price of 21$. The chicken is fine but do these look like 30$ nachos? There was no salsa or sour cream - some sour cream directly on the nachos which they used to fill it in, but nobody orders nachos and expects this. It's shameful. The week before, I got a grilled cheese. Lets just say it didn't taste like a grilled cheese sandwich even though that is what it was. The texture was wrong. I won't try them again with their new QR code service. Hopefully for them it increases their throughput but I can't stomach tipping them again before seeing the food and service. Read more
