Food was very one dimensional. The chicken and biscuit was strange. Chicken was battered like a Katsu. Sauce was too cheesy. Which seems to be a theme of this restaurant - cheese. Omelet was too cheesy and didn't have much flavor. I don't mean it was not salted (I liked ... the level of salt, it didn't make me thirsty), I mean it was not flavorful. Not enough spices or ingredients to add other dimensions of taste. Chowder was a 7/10, not bad. Their spiced latte was delicious. Probably my favorite item of the meal. Service was also top notch. Had a great time at the Holts Cafe enjoying Mother's Day Afternoon Tea special. Our server was Max, and he was amazing presenting tea samples, addressing special dietary needs, and always attending to our table and checking if we needed anything. He was really kind and helpful! We were able ... to really enjoy our time and felt very comfortable here. We also each received perfume samples in a cute bag as a gift. Very thoughtful touch for the mother's day. We came for the Jo Malone tea experience and found it to be okay. The Jo Malone pairing and gift bag was simply a perfume sample and a Holt Renfrew shopping bag. The afternoon tea itself was, again, just okay. Some sandwiches were too salty and some of the desserts ... too sweet, though the macaron texture was perfect and we enjoyed our teas (Holts Blend and Oolong Cream). Will not be back, unfortunately. Would not recommend the Jo Malone high tea as there are cheaper alternatives that provide a beautiful and memorable experience for their guests. Their regular dining experience may be better, but I would steer clear from their Jo Malone high tea set. The cafe’s interior was adorable and I wanted to love ... my experience here, but I was let down. The server checked up on us late, followed up once to drop off the food and described the selection for the menu, and only checked in on us once to refill our tea with hot water. After that - there were no check-ins, water refills, tea refills, etc. Our tea was actually cold for an hour or two, no one seemed to care to check in, and we had to flag down the servers on multiple occasions. There was no tea timer as advertised by videos online. The food was mediocre at best, and the presentation + service did not seem like a good representation of Holt Renfrew or Jo Malone’s overall luxurious experience. Also, don’t expect much from the gift. You can get the same thing at Sephora or a Jo Malone store, just ask for any perfume sample. Read more
