Reviews for Sunshine Diner in Vancouver, British Columbia
Cute 50's style diner, we came for a brunch. It was excellent. Food was great, really good, huge portions. Very cool atmosphere, statues of a few 50's icons outside. My favorite is the old juke box. We sat at a car themed table on the outside patio and it was ... perfect. 10/10 would recommend for a breakfast or brunch, thanks ! Read more
Sunshine Diner is fantastic! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ I can't get enough of their Philly Cheese Steak – it's deliciously satisfying. And those Skinny Fries? Perfection! Crispy and seasoned just right. The ambiance is cozy, and the staff is friendly. Definitely worth a visit!"
This was possibly the most confusing dining experience I've had in recent memory. It's not that any aspects was "bad" really; it was just... confli ting with itself. At first glance, it appears to be a classic 50's style diner hidden away in plain sight. However, when I was seated ... (at 5:30 on a thursday), the place was completely empty, yet all the tables were prepped for a "fine dining" experience. An XFM smooth jazz station played over the speakers, while Elvis' face was everywhere you looked. It seemed apparent that the owner loved the 50's theme... but had to find some way to justify the steakhouse prices on the menu. The service was quite decent, but that could have been because I was the only patron there at the time. And of course there was the food. I got their standard burger and an "adult" milkshake. For those two things, somehow, my bill passed the $40 mark. The milkshake (B52) claimed to include Bailey's, Kaluha, and espresso (for $15 +tax): the server either made some mistakes with the proportions of espresso to alcohol, or outright 86'd it as it just tasted like a coffee milkshake. The fries, which I was expecting to be rustic and thick-cut, were closer to pomme frites that covered 3/4 of the plate. In the remaining space stood the burger, which was closer to a slider than an actual burger. It was cooked well, seasoned well, just rather miniscule for a min. $20 price tag. It did include a small salad (and I mean SMALL) that was clearly made with a box of baby greens, a few cherry tomatoes, and Kraft balsamic vinegrette. The worse part about dining there... after paying $40 for just myself... I'm still hungry! If this place figured out what it wants to be, cut the prices to a reasonable amount, and perhaps moved to a more rural area or at least where rent isn't so expensive, this place would be pretty good. But, as it is rn, steer clear and safe your $. Read more
Have you seen Back To The Future? Walking into this place was like going back in time, and I'm not just referring to the charming decor, but also the genuine service and the great menu. Ok here it goes....these days I find that when I eat out I can't escape the reality ... of 2023 dine out. Which is what?.....well....paying more for less and having a robot serve it.....half the time luke warm. This place reminded me of a time before capitalism took over, before the internet where you had to actually...yeah....make eye contact and smile at another human being, before paranoia was an underlying theme. Ok.. getting a little sidetracked. The menu was awesome. They have plenty of everything. My go-to breakfast are Benny's and they have a colourful selection of those. Every single item was fresh, beautifully put together with care and attention and the potatoes were baked nicely paired with a generous cup of fruit (see pic.) The coffee was good...actually quite good considering it was just a house roast and it was served in a sparkling clean cup. The entire restaurant was super clean...which I loved. You know...no little drips on the rim where the server explains....Oh it must've dripped from the pot, or little dusty corners on the booth seats, and water marks on the tables from whatever semi-wet wiping rags were used from the previous guests. Nope. This place was immaculate. The Service. Exceptional. Not only were they friendly...they were genuine. Yes there's a difference. Some places they are friendly but not genuine....you know...the forced smiles. Then there is genuine friendly where you can feel the appreciation, the gratitude and a vibe that could only mean...they wanna be there. They like what they do and are happy to have you there. Energy and vibe...goes a long way...in either direction. Not for a second did we have to ask for anything. It was provided before we even knew we wanted it. SUNSHINE DINER...may your rays keep this beautiful chilly city warm for many years to come. Read more
My family and I absolutely LOVE Sunshine Diner! The decor is fully decked out in retro memorabilia with classic cozy booths to sit in. The service is good, and the food is delicious. I think they have the best eggs benny variety in Vancouver and their milkshakes are perfect ... for sharing, as they fill two glasses. Pro-tip: when ordering breakfast items ask for regular fries instead of the home fries, they are thin, crispy, and delicious!! Try one of their caramel espresso milkshakes, it is guaranteed to enhance your happiness levels (at least temporarily). Read more
