I have to say, after giving this bakery a negative review back when they were a dual kitchen, and having had some reactions to eating there and not the best customer service. Then I heard they went truly Gluten Free I decided to give them a third and last ... chance , and I have to say that this is by far the best Gluten Free bakery in town, and I have tried them all. East Village is a completely gluten-free bakery. Every time I have bought their baked goods I have been impressed. On the occasions where I have taken something to a party, the guests who eat gluten have tended to ask where I got the pie (or cookies, etc) because their food ... is delicious! I am getting married next month and the entire menu is gluten free. Although East Village does not make wedding cakes, we thought about going with their sheet cakes. However, after a little bit of chatting with their awesome staff, we were excited to order their GORGEOUS cupcakes :) The only thing that could make them better is if they offered delivery! Just an update to say that this bakery should be your go to bakery for all you Gluten free/Vegan items. We still continue to come this bakery for the amazing customer service and of course the great baked goods. Outstanding food and customer service. I hate to give East Village Bakery less than 5 stars because the quality of their stuff is usually great and the owner is very kind! We visit here probably 2-3x a month. Once, we splurged on a raspberry rhubarb pie. I guarantee nobody tasted the filling or did a test ... batch before selling to customers. It tasted like they didn't sweeten the filling at all. I think the pie cost around $20, and most of it went in the trash. Otherwise, their stuff has been good. Very moist and fluffy for gluten free. The only thing that could get me to visit more would be if they made more typical items. The buster bun is not good. I would love if they made a cinnamon bun though. The apple tarts are okay but apple strudels would be so much better. Biscuits, cheese sticks, sausage rolls or croissants would be amazing. With the gluten free industry, people aren't usually looking for unusual items. We don't have a lot of options and miss the old favourites. Now I wasn't in stealth mode when I went to East Village Bakery for the first time. I wanted to write a featured post about them for my site so they knew I was coming. That said, I have been wanting to go to East Village Bakery forever! I follow ... them on Facebook and what a happy and friendly place it always seems to be. Their baker is so adorable! So lovely! I *hearted* it immediately. The only issue? There is absolutely no where to sit. It is entirely dedicated to baking or showcasing all their gluten-free goods. At East Village Bakery if you are gluten sensitive or intolerant, you are in absolutely safe and caring hands. I got to try their raspberry crostata and their Salty Dog crostata which was my favourite. The apples were baked to perfection and tasted divine. Wish I noticed those notes of tequila but I loved it all the same. We enjoyed the raspberry crostata as well which is good considering it was +$4. Could I tell they were gluten-free? Yes. Did I still enjoy them? Absolutely. Personally, I prefer baked goods with gluten but for those who can not have it, visit East Village Bakery. You will be in baked goods bliss! My only complaint is I wish I could have been able to get a seat, decaf coffee, decadent treat and then hang out for a while but no. This is a pop in, get your baked good and be on your way kind of place. Which may be a good thing because once you go there, you may never want to leave. Read more
