Actually authentic Japanese. Chef and owner is this old super sweet Japanese couple. Service can be slow when it’s just the two of them, and prices are not “cheap” but expect quality, lots of care when it comes to the food and a quiet homely atmosphere. A hole in the ... wall so come and be prepared to chill. Finally a place that has actual tamago and not that rubbery neon stuff that most places serve. And the miso soup you can actually taste the homemade dashi. This is the real stuff. Read more
Coming from southern California I have had my fair share of sushi; both high and low quality at all spectrums of cost. My partner and I went here completely by chance during vacation were amazed. The server did a great job accommodating us (only English speaking). Both the sushi and ... appetizers were some of the best we've had and competitive in price for the quality delivered. 100% a must go for a special sushi occasion! Read more
They mostly operate off reservations but we were lucky enough to get a table a first seating. The server was really knowledgeable and made great recommendations. The sushi chef is a pro - we were told 40 years of making sushi! Would not say it's affordable but it's definitely high quality. ... The Chefs selection came with 9 pieces of sushi and was $40. Veggie tempura was also great - light batter and excellent veggie flavour, unlike some more oily tempuras I've had in the past. The Okinawa beer was also nice and refreshing, very easy to drink. Nothing disappointed and everything tasted very fresh. I look forward to coming back with a reservation. There seems to be many returning customers based on an interaction I observed between another customer and the server. Read more
Amazing food & experience at Kibune! We just managed to squeeze in at the bar early in the evening without a reservation and were very well taken care of by the chef. You pay for quality product, each nigiri selection on our Chef’s Choice plate was tremendously fresh with a ... lot of care put into each individual piece. The hospitality was so warm & welcoming, we will become regulars here after recently moving into Kits. Some of the best sushi in Vancouver! Read more
The signage on the door says “Please wait to be seated.” We waited, as the hostess/server was nowhere to be found (this is not the issue in itself, we understand they’re busy). But as soon as she came out, she just stood staring at us, stapling receipts and only when ... another group entered the door, told them (still ignoring us) that there were “no tables.” It is what it is, but just say so as soon as you see us? Why glare at us? How are we supposed to know the restaurant is closed when the door is open? Read more
