One of those hidden secrets: great sushi and friendly service at an unusually low cost. Great: unagi, toro, black roll. Not so good: tuna sashimi, which had a touch of frost in the centre. Dinner for 2 came to $30.
Definitely good bang for the buck. Premium rolls that would cost $10-$13 cost about $7 here. Normal rolls such as California or BC rolls are like $3. Honestly there is a lack of specialty fishes, so if you’re all about the rare stuff from japan and local fresh Uni you ... will be disappointed. The fish they have are decent quality and sometimes you need to feel like a king and be surrounded by an abundance of good food while only spending a fraction what you would have at a fine dining Japanese restaurant. Service was good, lighting was bright, volume was gorgeous given the price, but food quality needed improvement. Not japanese rice, and the sauce was way too salty. Miso soup tasted nothing like miso soup. Not real japanese food.
This was our first time to eat Japanese food here. We saw a high rating on Yelp, so we decided to give it a try. When we stepped into the restaurant, I almost tripped on the floor due to a folded door mat. It was around 8pm. Two of us ... grabbed a table right away. I noticed their chairs were not very clean. There was rice on a chair that was next to me. The cup of tea had some dry rice on the surface. Yick! We looked at a hard copy of their menu and pictures on their walls with prices. Our first impression was "Wow!" Their pricing was relatively cheap and the photos made the food look very delicious. We ordered a box 6 half house roll bento with miso soup, assorted sashimi, and a jumbo roll. All the sashimi had a decent size, but I had to spit out the "tendon" between the fish meat. Although I was chewing on the sashimi for a long time, I couldn't swallow it, because it was too chewy. Only the salmon sashimi was better that I didn't have to spit out anything. I could not taste the freshness of the sashimi unfortunately. The jumbo roll had cooked crunchy salmon. Probably we ordered a wrong roll. This was the worst roll I had ever had. The bento box was so big that each item had a big portion in the tray. You must say "Wow! This only costs $12.95!" Unfortunately, none of the items stood out to me. Overall, the customer service was good, but the restaurant did not give me a good impression. The food was lacking quality. Quality plays a very important role on any type of food. The presentation of the food was okay. But I would rather pay more to eat a better qualify of food. I will probably go somewhere else to eat better Japanese food. Read more
Our go to Neighbourhood Sushi place. It’s run by a very nice couple and the rolls are really great here. Price is very reasonable. The Wild Salmon Sushi is the same price as Farm Salmon Sushi. Some days especially weekends, they have lots of takeout orders so it will be a slight ... wait if you order take out. Read more
