Joyeaux Cafe & Restaurant - Vancouver, British Columbia

We were prowling the streets of Vancouver for breakfast options and instead of having traditional Western breakfast or elegant French pastries, we came across this gorgeous cafe offering Vietnamese fare. Their menu selection included many traditional favorites including pho, bun Bo hue, banh me as well as Western favorites as ... well. The chef owner was very kind and gracious and friendly! The food came out piping hot was incredibly flavorful and fresh especially the generous basil leaves and bean sprouts. We all enjoyed our breakfast very much and the banh me baguette was very light and crispy. The Vietnamese coffee was rich and flavorful. Overall an incredible breakfast dining experience. First time visiting, and I absolutely loved it! As a fan of Vietnamese food, I was thrilled by the friendly female staff who welcomed me with a smile and took my order to go. They open early in the morning, which is perfect for me since I’m always hungry right ... when I wake up. The food was fresh, and the portion sizes were much bigger than I expected! Experience would have been perfect if it wasn’t for the constant smell of tobacco smoke inside the restaraunt, lol! Also, the #5 Seafood looked nothing like the photo, but overall, everything was pretty good.

I went alone just a bit before the noon rush hour and was able to get seated. The service was quick and the food (despite the small plate) was quiet surprising. It's my second time here but the first time I tried this place, I ordered the Chicken Pho. Today I ... ordered the Lemongrass chicken, shredded pork fried egg on rice. The Lemongrass chicken was amazing, the skin was beautifully crisp and the meat was incredibly juicy. You can never go wrong with a fried egg on top as well! I would say that the prices are on the more expensive side for Vietnamese places but if you love supporting mom and pop operations, this is your place to go! Got Vietnamese pork submarine and orange juice early in the morning. The sub was delicious and side fruits were a nice touch. However as other review mentioned, I also noticed that they are up selling without notifying the customer. I ordered bottled orange juice but it seems like I received freshly ... squeezed one and I was charged extra for that. I was okay with that change but I can also understand how that may be frustrating to others. So please be aware and make sure the server got the correct order before you pay. Read more
