Aree Thai Restaurant - Vancouver, British Columbia

Extremely disappointed. We were excited to try a new Thai place and was disgusted when biting into the chicken satay. It was completely RAW.. all 4 pieces were UNCOOKED. Needless to say, I was pretty turned off. :( Photos for reference...

I'm Thai so that's self-explanatory. Got take-outs during covid (pad kee mao and pad thai) with a friend who couldn't deal with so much spice, so the lady gave us free homemade vanilla icecream to balance the spiciness out. Food was delish. The service was superb.

This review is not intended to hurt this business but instead want user to know what we really experienced. After seeing high rating by other users, we decided give it a try. When we arrived, only one table in the restaurant and look like they are finishing their meals. We sat ... down in this near empty restaurant waited for almost 10 minutes to have server came to us with water. Meanwhile another customer walked in sat down also waiting for service, he used the bathroom came out and waited some more then decided to leave the restaurant. Don't blame him. (We should have left too). We finally ordered and waiting for our food. Food came out in reasonable time and good temperature. Disappointed with the taste. The soup we ordered has mostly cabbage and other filler. And that applied to other dishes. So while we are having our dinner. A table of 5 who had a reservation came in. Sat down. Once again, not getting much service, they decided to leave and started to walk out. Waiter didn't ask anything. At this point, the owner(I believe, Aree) came out not happy about those people walked out. Instead ask your server what is going on. She decided to look into her caller ID to find out the phone number that used to call for the reservation. She called them and scolded the person on the end of the phone. So, I expect Aree will reply to this review when she read it. (as for other occasion, she replied to most of the bad reviews) I urge her to examine the products and service that she offers. It is a very quiet and cozy restaurant, but the interior was much more open and larger than I had expected. The server was very friendly and was confident in identifying which menu items could be made without the use of animal products which was very comforting for me. The ... food was delicious, fair sizing for the price and came very quickly. The menu is quite extensive too so I look forward to returning and trying more dishes. Read more

Growing up in Thailand I'm always craving authentic Thai food in Vancouver. This place definitely hits the spot. They offer more dish options that you can't typically get in your standard Thai restaurant in Vancouver. Recommend the Goong Ob Woon Sen.
