I love going to this place. Service is guaranteed always very good. Don't be turned off by outside activities, once you're inside, you'll be fine. For drink, I always like their lemonade. The cornbread is always a favourite , so rich and just perfect. The potato, baked with all the trimmings is filling. Loved the food and the atmosphere. We had a reservation for 10 people, but a few of us arrived late. The server took orders for the people who arrived on time, but the rest of us stragglers had to wait a few minutes to get our orders taken. We ordered ... 1/2 lb brisket, 2 pc fried chicken, 3 sides, and some drinks, which was shared between two people. The brisket was tender and juicy, and the chicken was really crisp and had this yummy Cajun type of seasoning on it. For the sides, I really liked tater tots and the Mac n Cheese, which had a hint of jalapeno flavour. I didn't enjoy the potato salad that much. It ended up being about $43 for everything, but I think it could have been shared between three people. The only unfortunate thing was that by the time we arrived, they were running out of the platter items. So we didn't get to try the cornbread, biscuits, or ribs. I wasn't too upset about that, but some of the people I was with were disappointed. The server was really nice and food was really good, so I see myself coming back. If you're looking forward to trying their platter meals, you'll definitely be disappointed if you arrive and they've run out. So I would call ahead of time to see if they've run out of anything. The atmosphere and theme in here are great! It feels really cozy and the smell from the smoked wood is really nice. Our waiter was a man with long orange hair and he was fantastic. My fiancé had the Bennie with pulled rib and tots, they were okay. The chicken ... and waffles was the best I've ever had! The waffles are crisp and the chicken was not greasy at all. Bad location for a restaurant; you will be basically surrounded by homeless and drug addicts by the moment you leave your vehicle and reach the restaurant or by the moment you walk into the area of downtown east. Concerning the food, we had chicharrones and stuffed jalapeños as starters which ... were pretty good. And a customizable meat platter with a side dish and bread. The neighbourhood can make some people uneasy but the BBQ was fantastic. Seriously good chicken. Chicken is only second to LA chicken in Richmond. 2 platters is a good size for 4 adult males. This restaurant is worth your time. It was my first time and I had no reservation so ... the wait was a little longer than usual. Read more
