Banh Cuon Pho Ga - Toronto, Ontario

Boyfriend vouches for this place as this is one of the places he has been going with his family for years. Great fresh food and nice staff. Small place and gets very busy at the lunch rush and even after the rush there's waves of customers. People seem to order ... the bánh cuon mostly but quite a few others were also ordering the soups and vermicelli dishes. Got the bún ca and the broth was tasty yet light. Boyfriend loved their bún bò huế since it was the proper spicy (not watered down spicy) and was his first time getting it. Also got the goi cuon and they were good. They use their own house sauce which has a pretty strong taste vs a traditional peanut sauce but use the hoisin sauce if you aren't a big fan of nuoc mam or sauce with strong ginger aroma. Consistently the best place in this area for Vietnamese food. Very unassuming and characterful place to enjoy a quick Vietnamese meal. Make sure you try the Bun Vit Mang (duck noodle soup) or the Bahn Cuon, both are specialties of the restaurant. I would recommend anything really. Love this hole in the wall joint for Pho Ga (chicken pho) and freshly made Banh Cuon (steamed rice roll). Their prices are amazing, and food is consistently good. Isn’t the greatest looking joint, but I literally drive to the other end of Toronto for this! If you like spicy, ... make sure to ask for their homemade hot pepper sauce. To get one of the most authentic pho (Saigon style) this is where it's at. The broth is on the sweeter side, the restaurant run by a husband and wife and it is just small and quaint. Old school, if you will Vietnamese vibe. Also the best place to ... get Banh Cuon (steamed rice rolls) or Banh Uut (steamed 'wet' rice rolls, really 'wet' means there's not filling). For those that loves the herbs and veg they don't skimp out in that for your pho. Definitely would go back to try other things. ..... Over the past few months I’ve returned and tried out the Bun Rieu (meat/crab vermicelli soup), more Pho and purchased their Cha (Vietnamese ham). I have to say I absolutely love this place—I’m a way it is your Vietnamese ‘mom and pop diner’ where everything is made in-house! The Bun Rieu option is located on a piece of paper on the wall, “specials” if you will. The service is always courteous and nice. They're good at what they do, simple menu. All delicious!!!! Drove all the way from the east end! Lost a star because they do not pick up the phone! May look a little rough but Hidden gem!
