Limited menu. Not much in the way of salad starters. Was very quiet for a Friday night. Has good private rooms for a group of twenty or a bit more. The mushroom sausage pasta was good. Second time visiting, certainly wasn't as memorable as first. Three servers for only 7 tables, yet our server couldn't seem to find the time to tend to us. At least thirty minutes before being told of the specials. Asked for a few minutes to look at wine list, another 20-25 min ... wait. Food came quickly, but was nothing special. We were half finished before she came to ask if we wanted grated parmesan on our pasta. She must have sensed we were not impressed as we were served by the other two servers for the remainder of our stay. Sadly, we won't be back. It's a shame because it's a quaint Italian restaurant. We went here with a large group for a birthday party. The ambiance looked cluttered coming into the entrance and very narrow to get to the hostess. We were seated in the back of the restaurant for our scheduled party of about 25 which was booked at least a week ... in advance. It was a prix fixe 7 course menu (Bread, Spinach Salad, Calamari, Pesto Tortellini, Penne Primavera, Chicken with Grilled veggies, and Gelato). We had 1 server to start then as the night went on we would have one or two more helping out. Because of this, the serving times were really slow. The 1st course of bread was cold and a bit bland dry. The bread wasn't fresh. After about a 15 minute wait the Spinach Salad came out and it was nothing special. It literally looked like someone doused olive oil in a bowl and tossed it with Spinach before topping it with slivers of parmesan cheese. It was not flavourful at all. Then the Calamari came out. It was slightly overcooked and cold when it reached our table. There was a significant wait of 45 minutes before we recieved our next course of Pesto Tortellini and penne Primavera. Both were bland and not flavourful. A little soggy and the ingredents were not fresh. The pasta itself was cooked well and seemed freshly made. There was another significant wait of over an hour before our chicken came out. By that time we werent hungry and just wantes to leave. The chicken was okay considering the amount of time we waited. The Gelato was not presented well and when it reached our table, it was half melted. Overall the food was not memorable, bland, portions were very small and for the price we paid for the meal per person (65 dollars) it was not memorable and terribly disappointing. One other thing I want to mention is that there was a gratuity charge of 20% which we understand is standard with large groups but I've never felt so ripped off being forced to pay that with the quality of food and service we recieved. Definitely, not an authentic Italian cuisine, overprice and not good. If you want to eat real Italian food, don't go there. Atmosphere is too loud, waiter singing opera is great, but food quality and taste is not there. Very disappointed. We complained about the food and the bill and they ... ignored us. I recall going to this restaurant in the early years when it first opened. It was the a very popular destination at the time. Our office made luncheon pilgrimages and it was a very festive place. Last evening, although the decor is reminiscent of those heady days something seems to ... have been lost in the intervening time. Minestrone, while opulent, seemed bland. We've had tastier minestrone at a chain restaurant. Our pasta plates took an inordinate amount of time to arrive. Service was informative but one of the 'specials of the day' had been sold out. A glass of wine, soup, pasta dish, dessert, for 2 with tea and espresso came to over $100. Things have gotten pricey in 23 years. Read more
