Our go to for chilli chicken. Even though we live in Etobicoke now we still venture here whenever we're in the area especially for that lunch special. For 12$ now due to inflation it's still definitely worth it. Ample gravy, super flavourful and great portion. The consistency is always great as it's ... not a hit or miss like some other places. Will always recommend this place when asked about Hakka food. Read more
Came here recently with a friend who loves the food here but personally I didn't enjoy it much. We came here on a Saturday evening and we're able to find seating pretty quickly. The ambience is nice and so is the service. We got the veg hakka noodles(which were quite good), ... the chilli fish(this was a let down as it was really dry and full of batter) and along with it some Manchurian gravy(a bit bitter and wasn't very authentic). Overall although the ambience and service was nice, I may not come here as nothing stood out from the food we had. Read more
We decided to check out China cottage for their lunch special on the weekdays. We fell in love with the chicken 88, and the chili chicken is also a great option here. You get a side of either soup/pop or spring roll with the lunch special. The total comes up ... to just under 12 dollars for the special. The atmosphere was alright, nothing crazy and the service was normal. Again nothing amazing. The food speaks for itself, one of the best places in Markham for Hakka food! Highly recommend! Read more
China cottage used to be quite better in terms of food quality. I recently visited with a group of 5, and we had ordered chicken hot and sour soup for starters. Spice and pepper tofu, Chicken 88, Mixed Vegetable Gravy, Chicken Fried Rice & Szechuan Noodles. The spice and pepper tofu ... used to taste quite a lot better back in the day, not the same anymore! An average you’re looking to spend per person is 18$-20$ The restaurant is quite dark and outdated needs an upgrade. Read more
Food was okay, the fish pakora was bland and a little overcooked, felt rubbery. I couldn’t taste the chilli beef anymore was super drenched in spicy sauce and has become dry plus salty. The service was quick tho. And ample parking.
