Forget when was my last visit, probably 20+ years ago. Came here again because I heard that the owners are going to retire on April 1 and closing down the restaurant. The restaurant is 90s decoration. I ordered their signature beef noodles. Honestly, not outstanding. Beef tendon ... is soft enough but the stew beef is overcooked. If they are not closing down, I don't think I will come again after so many years. Read more
I am sad to find that this place is closing after 30 years in business upon my first visit. As the name's suggest, their thing is their beef noodle, and the beef noodle certainly blew my socks off. The broth was so rich and packed full of flavours, the beef both ... succulent and tender. I am happy to have just 2 bowls of this and call that a meal! The sliced pork with garlic sauce 蒜泥白肉 has a nice spicy kick but the pork was too thin and there wasnt enough garlic. The Taiwanese braised pork 台灣滷肉 was nice, soft... I only wish it was a little warmer but it was great to be accompanied with a little rice. When the lady came back to check on the food, I told them that we'd have liked it a little warmer. Seeing that we've eaten already already, she was like "Oh I wish you've told me sooner!" She and her staff are so nice and friendly they did come back to chat with us often. It will be such a lost for Toronto to lose this awesome beef noodle place. If there's one thing you eat from this place, dont miss out on the beef noodles. Read more
We came here around 8:00 pm. The server politely advised us they close at 9:00pm. There were only two tables occupied. The restaurant decor has a very dated 90s vibe. We ordered the signature beef brisket and tendon noodle soup $15.95. There were plenty of chunk tender pieces of beef ... brisket along with crunchy chewy tendons. The broth was flavourful and not greasy at all. We asked for mild, but the soup did have a little kick. The thick noodles were bouncy and chewy. It helped soak up the satisfying broth. We also ordered the green onion pancake rolled with beef. The server made a mistake and entered 2 orders. The pancakes were stuffed with thick pieces of beef flank and seasoned with hoisin sauce. Great appetizer to go along with your noodle soup. I ordered the beef udon noodle with black pepper beef. The udon noodles were really good, but I wish the portions were a bit bigger. Overall, it was a satisfying meal, and we had some food to take home. The bill came up $69.90, but the server did mess up our order. It would have been nice if they adjusted the bill or at least confirmed our order before entering the order to the kitchen. Next time, I will try their green onion pancakes, chicken supreme, and pot stickers. They also have a Monday - Friday lunch special menu, which I am tempted to try. Read more
Been awhile since I've been back to my favorite beef brisket noodle restaurant. Good news- beef brisket, noodles, soup broth still excellent, flavorful and robust Bad news- bowls/portions smaller with higher price. What a dilemma, keep same size portions and prices and eventually go out of business due to inflation or shrink portions, ... increase prices to remain solvent.. I'm glad they chose the latter, we can't afford to lose any more mom & pop type establishments. Btw, their scallion/chive pancakes are the best, crunchy exterior and dough is actually layered (like a croissant) which gives it a light airy taste texture unlike others which are normally dense. I'll keep my fingers crossed as the recession could worsen Read more
