The Real Jerk - Toronto, Ontario

We had a craving for Jamaican and were driving through our old haunts in East York. The Real Jerk for lunch was so good! Jerk chicken, Curry goat, oxtail and rice and peas! Great food and service. Ginger beer, Red Stripe and a new drink....a dark and stormy.

Went to order an ackee and salt fish for lunch. Asked for provisions, they were out, asked for fried dumpling, they were out. I don’t eat rice so I asked if I can substitute for vegetables because there was nothing else to substitute it with. The picture ... below is what I received. She charged me $25?!?! Such a rip off! I could get a full snapper dinner for this price. I was still hungry after eating such a small portion. Charged me full dinner price and full price for the side of vegetables. I’m beyond upset. I had the jerk wings & jerk pork poutine & 2 of their Dark & Stormys (they called it something else) & got a 1/2 chicken to go. All were good and the young woman working behind the bar was very nice.

I think I was the Jerk for not bringing my girlfriend here sooner. Very cheap and tasty food, and the service was very friendly too! We got the coconut shrimp and the jerk chicken poutine, both of which were new flavours to us and we loved them both. It was a ... cozy, plain and simple environment too. Would definitely come again. Really gross curry veg roti.. it tastes like the frozen bag of veggies that you get from the grocery store. Unseasoned. Absolutely gross. Definitely would never buy again. Also the veggie patty was very bland and tasteless as well.
