For the uninitiated, stir frying, the cornerstone of Cantonese cooking, SHOULD be all about wok hei.... that complex charred aroma that fleetingly cloaks the piping-hot stir-fry recipes served in Cantonese restaurants. The incredible flavour results from a complex interplay of factors that is part science, part art, part magic. However, and ... sadly, true wok hei cooking is extremely hard to find in Toronto. Thankfully, I recently found an outstanding chef, who does smoky ‘breath of a wok’ cooking well. Chef Bruce at City Wok Kitchen is a rare wok hei superstar. His rice and noodle creations are among the best I've ever enjoyed. His wife is charming---and a pleasure to chat with while Chef Bruce lovingly creates genuine wok hei goodness. I strongly recommend City Wok Kitchen. Mention my name...Wok Hei Steve to Chef Bruce when visiting...and receive special attention! Read more

Can't give it any stars for atmosphere because it's one of the sketchiest locations possible. But the food speaks for itself. Uncompromisingly tasty, yet ridiculously cheap. There's a reason this place has been around for 30+ years, and why it's still operating despite being a hidden-secret among the chinese diaspora. Cash only.
Super affordable dishes for a quick lunch or dinner. They also have a huge menu to select from! As others mentioned, the dishes are a bit too salty to my liking, but the flavour of the beef brisket were very authentic!

I got the stir-fried beef rice noodles, and it was so delicious! At only $12, the portions were huge, hot and fresh, and the meat was so tender. Everything about this was amazing quality and so flavourful, alongside the cheap portions and quality price!
