Pappa Roti - Toronto, Ontario

So excited Pappa Roti came to Toronto!!! We stop in every time we’re in Vancouver, so having our own is awesome! Tried the milk tea (cardamom, you foxy spice) and the strawberry dreams bun (warm, toasty, not too sweet). Highly recommend!

I’m a fan of pappa roti in Vancouver and I’m so happy there’s finally one in Toronto! The coffee buns are just as good as I remembered. Crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside. These buns are light and not too overly sweet. The service here is great. They offered ... me a substitute when I got my combo without one of the toppings. It is a new café at Dundas and Spadina. It's just open 3 weeks ago and still in the start up stage. Simple interior and furniture. Very delicious pappa roti bun and that is the base ingradient of all the dishes sold at this place. The whole bun consists of a ... light and sweet dough stuffed with butter and melts in the mouth with only 4 to 6 bites. I love it and consider it as an invention in the bakery business. Other than the pappa roti bun, the place is no different than any other coffee shop in the city. Street parking is available for $4/hr from 6pm-9pm. The place closes at 9pm. After delighting in some delicious Mexican food in the area, we were walking around half asleep, and with active sweet tooths, so we moseyed our way into PappaRoti for some coffee and treats. PappaRoti is a chain of cafes that originated in Malaysia. Their claim to fame are these cute, little ... dessert roti buns. Apparently the original was coated with sweet coffee caramel, and sandwiched a pocket of salted butter. Now you have several different bun options. Between the two of us, we shared their classic bun, and I got a latte. The classic bun is pretty simple; the basic roti bun, drizzled Nutella, powdered sugar, and a sliced banana. I found that the bun was very appropriate for a light snack, especially when you consider that they're not dense at all. I was somewhat disappointed that there was no filling inside of the bun, as one would assume from seeing the other buns advertised. In general, I could have used either more savoury or sweet flavour, since the visuals of the dish prepared me for something with somewhat more flavour. But hey, maybe that's my mistake for ordering the classic. Sadly, the coffee didn't hit the mark. My barista companion re-enforced this with her suggestion that the coffee had too much of a bitter taste due to being burnt. Whatever the case may have been, it wasn't stellar. I've had Pappa Roti in Dubai many times and was looking forward to it opening here. To say that I was disappointed is an understatement. This place was bad. I had the karak tea and original bun, both of which were way off of what it's supposed to be like. ... The tea was tasteless and awful, couldn't even finish it. The bun looked like a mess and tasted even worse. Pappa Roti buns are supposed to melt in your mouth, this bun didn't do anything but suck. If someone gave me sweet bread with butter, it would have tasted better. The service was extremely slow but they just opened up so I didn't mind it. I really hope they are able to emulate the franchise standard otherwise it won't be around here too long. Read more
