Stopped by for a quick coffee while I was shopping. It was almost lunch hour and the place was bustling. I opted for a dessert. Coffee came in fast, while I had to wait to finish my coffee for the dessert to come. Lemon meringue pie was heavenly, served with ... raspberry sorbet on a bed of raspberry coulis. I’ve been wanting to try Holt’s afternoon tea for a while at their Yorkdale location but they ended up closing before I could. Finally got a chance to book and try it at the Bloor location! I have to say the overall experience was fantastic. We were seating in the right ... section of the cafe where it was nice and bright by the window and not loud and noisy at all. Our server was very attentive and had a great sense of humour :) For the tea, we really enjoyed the Holt blend. Earl Grey was…Earl Grey. If you want to try something slightly different, I recommend the Holt blend. All teas are by Sloane. The food - everything was very enjoyable!! The only criticism is the egg and truffle sandwich. The bread they chose was cold and dense. The filling was great, and it would have been elevated if they just changed the bread, even if it was the white bread they used for the prawn and cucumber sandwich. The scones were delightful and the sweet tray was all very great, especially the mango pancotta. The s’mores tart was a bit too rich and sweet but I can see some would enjoy it. Had a lovely experience, enjoying the Chinese Lunar New Year Tea. 🐉 The presentation was beautiful and the treats were tasty. Yes, it's expensive - but the ambiance was lovely. Excellent presentation, obviously great for photos. For the price you pay, it's slightly below average. Matcha tiramisu was delicious, as with the cucumber sandwich. Choux was a bit soggy, and matcha scone seemed under baked. Macaron filling was tasty, but the shell was slightly hard/tough. Sesame ball was nice, har gow was okay. I made a reservation for Holt Cafe's Holiday Afternoon Tea right before the Christmas holidays. Understandably it's a busy time of year when you have a holiday event, but we ended up waiting over 20 minutes to get our table despite having an reservation. Once seated, we ordered our type of ... tea and added a glass of prosecco as well. The tea was fantastic, as expected since it's Sloane brand tea. However when it came to the actual food, sweets and pastries, it was a little disappointing. The small savory sandwiches were soggy and tasted old, and the sweet pastries were very bland and seemed like something you can get from a grocery store. The highlight was definitely the scones- absolutely fantastic with great choice of spreads. But I definitely expected a higher quality afternoon tea set from Holts Cafe. Read more
