First off, the building this chain is currently squatting in is absolutely beautiful which no one can deny. Some of the staff are super cool, others don't even try. The coffee, well, what can we say? It's not the best; on any day I'd rather quit this bit and stay at ... Arvo right around the way. Read more
We went at around 8 am. It was minimally crowded with a couple of people waiting in line. The lady at the counter took our order. While we were waiting for the food and beverage to get ready, I walked to check out the upstairs section. The store itself is beautiful, ... with an old world aesthetic that is very pleasing to the eye. As I returned to the ground floor, I was told that I am not allowed to take photos with my camera, only cell phone photos were permissible. I quickly complied since the 40mm lens was not the right fit to capture the beauty of the expansive store. We collected our food, a ginger cookie, bacon and egg sandwich, and a mocha, and elected to sit outside. While eating we were surprisingly and jovially interrupted by brazen sparrows looking for a morning feed. The food was very average. The sandwich, usually a reliable bet, was rather soggy and tasteless. The mocha was pretty good. All in all, a great store from an aesthetic perspective but average in terms of a breakfast destination. Read more
Amazing coffee, and love the aesthetic. I had a cappuccino which was very very good and my brother had an iced coffee which was equally horrible. Bare walls, visible gas/water pipes, etc. gives the cafe a very industrial and old look. Also there’s seating on a balcony overlooking the main floor ... of the cafe. Read more
Such an amazing place to stay a half of hour and drink your coffee in a wonderful building. I am more into the architecture rather than the food! But the coffee was also great, a little expensive but still good. Not worthy for take out but perfect for hanging out.
One of the prettiest cafés in TO (in my humble opinion). Seating upstairs and downstairs. I went around 10 am and not busy. Very quiet. Great place to catch up on emails. Also seating outdoors. I had the iced Americano and the almond croissant heated ... up. Both delish (as always with Balzac’s). Read more
