Holy Chuck - Toronto, Ontario

Decent tasting but with many problems. First off, there was NO sear! It was practically a boiled patty (photos included). I ordered their signature The Holy Chuck burger, medium-rare, and they either don't know how or just aren't equipped to cook their meat medium-rare. The griddle must not ... be hot enough to get a good sear before overcooking the meat. I would rather them not offer medium-rare if they can't get a good sear on it. Second, the bread quickly got very soggy. I flipped my burger as soon as I took the photo and the bottom bun was already soaked. Lastly, the bacon wasn't crispy at all and the caramelized onions were too sweet. That said, this is still (sadly) one of the best tasting burgers that I've had in Toronto, and the fries were good too (and you get a ton!). I might have to go back to try the burger cooked well-done, but then, what's the point? Update: I've since tried the burger cooked medium, at their other location, and still no sear! Food is amazing here. These guys have the perfect balance of salt to meat ratio fore everything- going here you will be intimidated by the price, but the food and service will quickly accomodate that for you. Portion sizes are huge, and the variety of foods that you can pick will ... not be beat. Everything from the burgers to fries then finally the milkshake or dessert; you will not be disappointed. A really good burger place with fresh ground meats and quality ingredients. The raging bull fries are also great however I would only recommend them if you have a group of people to share them since they are huge. Also those people better not mind breathing a little fire afterwards ... as they are VERY spicy. Update: I have been here 4 times to date and the one caveat to to my previous review is that you are going to feel pretty sluggish after your meal. The burgers are tasty but very greasy and heavy. Came in for lunch on a weekday and it was super busy. Tried the Big Chuck. It was so greasy, sloppy and juicy. Really enjoyed the flavour but the bottom bun was kinda useless, just soaked up so much grease and juice and got soggy so didn't care for it. But ... the big thing is flavour and I really enjoyed the medium rare patties. Also had the panko onion rings and they were really flavourful as well. Overall 4/5, just going to dock 1 star because my meal came to $20. A bit much for lunch. Read more

I've been here twice in as many weeks. That's unusual for me, as I don't eat out often. Holy Chuck is what Burgers Priest wishes it could be. I didn't like the Priest much, but I love this place. Their burgers are pretty great, and some are quite inventive. Because they ... grind their never-frozen meat in house, you can order your patty medium rare, which is awesome. Their cooking isn't always on the mark, though, so sometimes it comes medium anyway. That's really my only criticism. I guess they could offer the option of toasting the buns or not, but at that point I'm just getting nit-picky! Also, they offer some burgers with a bacon patty (pictured in the burger image in my review). It's literally bacon that they've ground and turned into a burger patty. It's amazing. The fries are so, so good. Nicely seasoned and have a great flavour and texture. My second time there I had the poutine, and it was pretty good, though the cheese curds didn't live up to my hopes. The Madagascar Bourbon Vanilla Milkshake is quite possibly the best milkshake I've had in my life. Get it. You won't be disappointed. (Also, don't expect it to contain actual bourbon, that's just the name of the vanilla bean variety). The staff are also nice, and the service is fast. When they forgot to add our fries to our order the first time, they gave them to us for free. I will definitely be back again. Read more
