This is my favourite place in Chinatown, and I’m heartbroken to see it go. Not only are their buns shockingly affordable, but they were the perfect combination of sweet and savoury. There was something for everyone. Furama was a fixture in the community and Toronto is something less without it.
The most expensive chinese bakery i’ve ever been but the tastes were below the average. I visited around 9 a.m. but the dough was already dry and filling was definitely lacked
The place is very well identified, the items are clearly labeled, the food retrieval process is stream lined and the items are affordable. The lady packed the items picked (7 in total) and placed them gently into a box and sealed the box and placed carefully into a bag. This kept ... the items well preserved during the transfer. This bakery has a seating area. My uncle loves the milk tea and the ability to request a fresh egg tart, straight out of the oven. Tables in the seating area are always a bit dirty. I got a BBQ pork pastry - what I got was a bland puff ... pastry with a tiny piece of pork fat and the smallest piece of pork (I discarded the fat). I was also disappointed by the chicken bun, as it was just a bread roll with an quarter-sized piece of meat inside. They also serve Hong Kong style breakfast, and have a washroom downstairs. Furama is one of the OG Hong Kong bakeries on Spadina and I am deeply saddened to see them go. They have been a neighbourhood staple for over 30 years and have always been my go to spot for buns, desserts, and cakes ever since I was a child growing ... up in Chinatown. My favorites were always their peach square pastries, breaded chicken sandwiches, and their hot dog, ham & cheese, pineapple, and coconut buns. I will miss Furama but am thankful I got to return twice to buy lots of buns and desserts to enjoy with my friends and family one last time. Read more
