Had a lovely afternoon with my friends here and joined for afternoon tea. The staff was able to accommodate a last minute dietary restriction which was much appreciated. There was care and attention to detail applied to the food, tea, drinks and overall experience. The fresh scones, clotted cream with ... rose and raspberry jam were our favourites! Read more
Shangri-la Lobby Lounge offers a decent ambiance, modern decor and concise food menu with extensive drinks offerings in the heart of downtown Toronto. Walked in weekday afternoon for some drinks and grabbing a bite of food. Ordered the Shangri-la Burger. Shoestring fries are the exact replica of McDonald's. The server saw there ... were 2 of us, so he asked the kitchen to slice the burger in half. Burger bun was highlighted as milk bun (rather than potato/hamburger bun). It's a smash burger that is done right, not too greasy, topped with cheddar cheese, lettuce, tomato and pickles. We also got the Shrimp Toast, it came in 5 slices and aioli dip. The prawn paste was tangy, but it was overly salted. There was a pianist who was playing live music in the background. Overall, it was a great ambiance. Of course, service was top notch. The server was at the top of their trade. Read more

Most recently we went to the Shang for high-tea to celebrate a special birthday. We had reservations for the 8 of us, the table setup was not the most comfortable even though it was in front of the fireplace. For starters each of us had a prosecco. Then we made our ... individual choice of different teas. Shortly the tiers of savoury bites and desserts came. The display was very visual and improved. But as I had a look at the items I was slightly disappointed- only one level of savoury items and the rest was sweets. As we sampled the savoury bites the flavours just didn’t fuse well together. And it was obviously prepared much in advance. Next came the desserts and they occupied 2 tiers, it’s great for someone with a sweet tooth. I found that they were too sweet for my taste. Overall we found the high-tea underwhelming compared to the others we’d experienced in London UK and in NYC. The setting was not conducive to the expected experience. Servers were quite busy not as attentive. The charge per person was on the high end but the overall experience was not! We expected much more from the Shang. Read more
