Sushi Kai - Toronto, Ontario

We came at 7:40pm last night and waited till 8:40pm. No waiter/waitress ever came to say hi. No waiter/waitress ever gave us the menu. No waiter/waitress ever served us with a cup of water or anything. I asked "can you PLEASE give us a menu so we can start looking ... at the menu?" I was ignored like a FOOL. I had an urgent business meeting at night and time has been the most precious thing to me. Sushi Kai just totally ignored that. How RUDE is that? oh yeah because I am Asian-looking that you just ignored me and served other Caucasian couples? I understand that this restaurant is always busy. But can you please serve you customers well? give a menu, serve a cup of water, greet us? don't just ignore us as we are not coming here to beg for food! Sushi Kai should know that we drove half an hour, hardly found a parking place, waited one hour without being even served a cup of water! I highly discourage people to go to this restaurant. There are tons of Sushi restaurants on the street. Don't just care about the cheap groupons. Think about it. The price is not that cheap plus you have to suffer long waiting line and waiting there for one hour and no one ever notices you sitting there. Sorry for my attitude. But now Sushi Kai can feel how I felt last night when no one served us and all other customers laughed at us when we had to desperately leave. We have been going to this sushi restaurant regularly for the last 7-8 years but have noticed a significant decline in service in the last 2 years. First, we stopped ordering takeout because the restaurant couldn't deliver orders made at 5 PM by 6 PM. Okay, whatever. ... But then recently, we decided to go to the restaurant for lunch. The restaurant was not even half full but it took more than 1 hour to get our food! We assumed they were busy because of all the takeout orders we saw going out, but when 3-4 tables got served their food first, we were livid. When we asked why, the chef/owner said that the other tables were regulars. Pretty shocking that the restaurant doesn't let you know that there will be a longer-than-normal wait especially when you're with with two toddlers (1 and 3) nor does it follow a first-come-first-serve standard. I would've given Sushi Kai 4 or 5 stars years ago but they really need to get their act together. (Perhaps because we were Groupon customers they didn't feel the need to serve us promptly.) Other friends we know who used to order from Sushi Kai have stopped ordering as well because of the slow service. Buyer beware. Read more

Above average quality sushi for a great price. Everybody that goes here uses the Groupon deal that has been going on for the last few years: $20 for $40 worth of food. Great deal...

Having been there over 10 times, thus is our go to spot for a quick dinner. I would definitely recommend going for the groupon deal because otherwise, the prices aren't fantastic. Food wise, it's a very good place. It probably has one of the best sushi pizzas I've ever had. Nice ... thin rice patty with a huge amount of salmon chunks on top. Their special spicy salmon roll is very tasty too. One downside of the place is that sometimes the service is quite slow. This usually happens during peak Friday and Saturday evenings. So I'd say avoid those days. However, out of those 2 days, the service is quick and friendly. Read more

Second time here. Not the best sushi I've ever had, but there is something very comfortable about the atmosphere. The staff is very nice and courteous. I predict the will be a third visit, followed by a fourth.
