Koyoi is definitely a hidden gem in Toronto and a must if you like Japanese izakaya food. The staff is very nice and place is beautiful in the summer. I rarely order the karaage, but with friends we decided to try it and ordered 10 and it was really good. ... The flavor and juiciness was perfect! Also, the curry fries are a must! My boyfriend and I stopped by for what was supposed to be a quick beer and ended up dropping 2 bills because we were enjoying ourselves so much! Koyoi is a no frills, cozy spot for delicious cold plates and deep fried tapas plates and a great selection of sake, ... beer and cocktails. The menu is creative with weekly specials. Our server was extremely sweet and attentive. We ordered a variety of cold and hot small dishes, such as the chicken karaage, deep fried oysters, squid, udon, the tako and ikura cold plates with seaweed, cold udon with poached egg, and the beef tongue. The flavours of every dish exceeded our expectations! The cold udon was a bit over cooked and so was the beef tongue, and those are my only complaints (not like it matters) - Go on Tuesday-Thursday night for really good deals (10 karaage + pitcher of Sapporo for 32$!). Probably a great place for drinks but their food doesn't disappoint either. Many fares are geared towards tapas style, and the service is great. With the amount of space they occupy inside, it's surprising they have that many items in their menu. There's a patio during the warmer days.

authentic Japanese food but the portions were small to share amongst three people (except for the curry fries — which were delicious). we found ourselves continuing to order food because we were still hungry. however, everything was seasoned well, and the fish cakes were particularly good. they offered a seasonal ... maze udon which was light and refreshing. great selection of drinks and happy hour made it better. worth a try! I had to try it because I was told the food is the closest version of Japan. We dined during the evening of Tuesday January 29; our waiter was very polite and hospitable. He made sure to fill our drinks and cleared empty dishes promptly. Never once did we ... have to wave him down, unlike most Toronto restaurants. In terms of food, I think I have found my new go-to comfort food spot. I can’t recommend a favourite because it was all very delicious!
