Love love love this place. The service was great and food was exceptional. We ordered a few appetizers to share and our absolute favourite were the fish tacos. The flavours and colours on the plate left us disappointed we were sharing! Another favourite were the nacho fries. Nice menu for winterlicious food!! Small and ambient place!!

$33 Winterlicious dinner! Crab cake was bigger than the salad portion. 3inches in diameter. Not greasy and not too crispy but the salad tasted amazing with a bit of sweetness. Main course with the lamb shank was the best! Portions were big and very very filling! It came piping hot ... with just enough sauce to go with the mash. The sauce was not dense and had a more water base consistency with little to no grease! Flavours were not too bold and very balanced. French toast with vanilla ice cream was ok. Toast was a bit overdone and too firm for my spoon to cut through. Tasted a bit too tasted. The red velvet slice was just as slim as the toast, if not slimmer. Creme brulé would've definitely been the better option! This place seems to attract an older crowd so it wasn't noisy. It was quite well spaced with the decor being quite interesting with the disco ball, Christmas trees and lights. Most notably my favourite thing about this restaurant is the random coconut that hangs above the entrance. I was told it was a coconut from Sri Lanka and meant good luck. Read more

Went for lunch as part of the Summerlicious promotion. Lunch for 2 plus tip plus 1/2 litre of wine was $80. Cafe California is in the heart of Toronto's Gay Village - it's a pleasant place but nothing stood out for me. Food was good (although my companion's ... medium-rare steak was close well done), service was spotty (they needed more staff). If I lived in the neighborhood I'd visit occasionally but I'd never make a special trip to eat there. Read more

Had an amazing meal here after a long day. Fresh ingredients. Killer salad. Stunning pasta. Did not taste processed. But, most of all, the service was over the top: personal, funny, engaging and incredibly attentive.
