Excuria - Thunder Bay, Ontario

Great little hidden gem right beside FW Arena! Great food and excellent customer service! We tried a bunch of different appetizers and they didn't disappoint. Deep fried spaghetti balls served in a great tomato sauce were especially delicious, so much so, that you wanna call your momma ... up and tell her to sing you a song! The fried dill pickles were also amazingly good in their own side full sauce! Built in what looks like an old style home from the set on Bonanza, this bistro is filled with rustic charm and a very cozy atmosphere! Excellent selection of cold beverages on tap gives you the chance to get a good feel on before going to watch a hockey game! Hidden gem and highly recommended! Read more

I was in town on business this week and stopped into this little gem. I had the Reuben sandwich and it was awesome so we went back the next day and I ate "The Large" one of their tall burgers. Let me start by saying that it sure lives ... up to its name as you'll need to use both your hands -simply amazing food was very delicious and so tasty!! The Excuria v2.0 is not the same Excuria culinary experience of the past. What used to be a fantastic middle to upscale flavourful contemporary american cuisine is now forgettable, tasteless and heavy food on par with any typical truck stop grease joint. Whereas I used to frequent the original Excuria, ... this was my second and most definitely my last visit at the v2.0. If you are looking for heavy food, salty soup, huge burgers, processed liquid cheese on your nachos and deep-fried everything else then this is the place for you. What killed the original restaurant in my opinion (aside from any politics/finances i may not be aware of) was their heating issues. It was impossible to enjoy a meal in the winter there as the place was freezing and on several occasions I had to sit there with my parka on. The one positive if the new restaurant is that it appears the heating issue has been solved. on Friday at 5 - 6 the place was deserted which is not a good sign. They also close at 8?? so if you want to go out with friends for casual dining, drinks and conversation Excuria should not be on your list of potential destinations. As much as I would love to see more restaurants on this end of town I doubt the new v2.0 will survive long. Read more

Went Saturday night with the boys before the NorthStars game. Will have to admit was one of the best experiences for dinner and a beer. Management (the man in the suit) was very hands on and pleasant to deal with. Serving staff was quick and efficient. Food.....AMAZING!!! Best poutine and ... wings I have ever had, buddy had the Yorkshire pudding pot roast...to die for. Awesome environment, super clean. Will be going here for every night out. Great work Guys. Great atmosphere, very unique place for this city, even the music was a nice touch. The food was disappointing. A lot of potential though. The salmon was horribly overcooked, and very dry, but the shrimp was close to being raw. Quite the mixed bag of temperatures throughout the dish. Properly ... executed, anything here would be on par with the best in Thunder Bay, but the execution was sorely lacking. Service was acceptable, but slow and lackluster for a restaurant of the calibre that Excuria passes its self off to be. We will be back, in a couple of months, when they've hopefully sorted this.
