We eat here pretty frequently, and it's consistently good. The house salad has the best dressing I've ever had. All the entrées are delish, but the appetizers and sushi are the stars of the show.
Their specialty rolls are good. I particularly like the Sun Sushi roll. There location is handy since there aren't many restaurants in the area. Their sashimi is not up to par so don't bother getting it there. Much better at other sushi restaurants in downtown St.John's
I have eaten sushi across Canada and this place has the worst service I have seen. I am writing this review after eating at sun sushi for the forth and final time. The quality of sushi is ok but nothing to rave about, but the service is horrible. It is ... extremely slow and the servers are rude and rarely check in to see if you need anything. They constantly miss items that were ordered and are slow to bring them after a friendly reminder. They also offer no apologies for the inconvenience and lack simple manners. After 4 identical experiences at two different locations I can't help but feel this is no coincidence. If you are looking for great sushi and service I have found sushi island on water street to be the best. Either sushi place in St. John's blows this place out of the water! Very disappointed! The food is so so. The fish is not fresh so lot of the special rolls are cooked and smelly. They also do not have much variety. The service is also terrible. Had to ask for water 3 times; only to see a waitress walk by me several times with a ... jug full of water and avoiding eye contact. Finally had to go and serve water myself. The disregard for patrons is reflected very accurately in the quality of food, service, and management. Avoid unless you can't drive a few minutes to downtown for much better fare. Read more
