Underbelly - St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador

The Underbelly has a very cool vibe, the aesthetic is dark, moody and romantic old world speakeasy. Understandably, there was a bit of a wait as this spot is very popular, we arrived without a reservation and the hostess fit us in for drinks for 45 minutes later…highly suggest making a ... reservation! We were happy to grab a drink and return. The staff were friendly, accommodating and professional. We ordered nachos (vegetarians/vegans), they were awesome. Loaded with toppings, fresh, filling and a great bar hop snack. For drinks we ordered Old Fashioned cocktails…these left us wanting. The bartender was overzealous with the sugar and bitters. It was far too sweet and unbalanced. I did not make a dent in my drink, however, my partner did and we believe it was partly to blame for the headache the next morning (ha-ha). Overall it was a great experience, the music was great for the atmosphere, we cuddled up in a cozy curtain draped booth and enjoyed our time sucking in the experience and inhaling nachos. Nice ambience. But I probably won’t go back there. Not a pleasant experience. We got there before cover charge in effect. Me and six of my co-workers were asked to leave or pay cover charge. Not a good way to do business considering the tips on my ... bill (30 mins spent there) could cover twice the cover charge. Read more

My favorite watering hole in the entire city. The atmosphere is fantastic as well. Great place to go to just have a pint at the bar. You also have access to the full yellow belly menu. During the summer it's always nice and cool as well. I would make a ... point to go here at least once if you are visiting the city. Read more

Amazing place! Oldest room in NL. So much interesting history. Phenomenal classic drinks, great service and staff, excellent music, incredible atmosphere! Highly recommend! Great atmosphere. Even though it's literally a dimly lit basement, it feels unquestionably cool. The music and lighting gives it a unique ambiance. Table service is pretty good, and they make good cocktails. Yellowbelly's signature beer are all excellent choices, and there is also quality food available from the kitchen, ... but I personally prefer to go here just for drinks. Read more
