Lingnan Express - St. Albert, Alberta

In terms of food quality, this is my favorite Chinese food place in St. Albert. Amy's dry and spicy chicken is just phenomenal. They have excellent Shanghai noodles as well. Other items on the menu are good too, although the two I just mentioned are the ones ... that stand out to me the most. It is a bit pricey, but for the quality I'd say it's worth it. I ordered chicken chow mein, lemon chicken, and spring rolls last night. The chicken chow mein tasted good, but was extremely dry. The lemon chicken and spring rolls were deep fried incorrectly. The spring rolls turned to complete MUSH and the batter on the inside of the lemon chicken was ... also mushy and slimy. I would NEVER order from here again. So disappointing, especially if you are familiar with the real Lingnan restaurant in Edmonton and Chicken for Lunch in Scotia Place. The quality difference is staggering between those good places and this terribly mediocre place. Lingnan Express over-starches and over-sugars their food, charges ridiculous markup over its competitors, and generally disappoints ... for overall service experience. Good quality Chinese food at going rates! The hot and dry chicken is to die for! They have odd hours in St. Albert and at times we are in town during what would normally be considered normal eating hours only to find out they are closed. I believe they are ... closed Tues to film their cooking show. So we work around it as the food is the best! Only real complaint I have is when we go there for lunch and order say the Hot and Dry Chicken and Szechuen beef combo. Sometimes I just feel like having all Hot and Dry chicken instead of the Szechuen beef and they charge an extra $1 for that. In my opinion that is absolutely ludicrous. It's a money grab because we all know that really, it's not costing the restaurant more money. If anything you think it be the same price or less. But that is the only complaint. Read more

Lingnan express in St.Albert closes it's doors early and then shuns customers- absolutely disgusting. I'm editing my rating from one star to 4 stars. The food here is good. The establishment made the appropriate arrangement to rectify what had happened. Dry spicy chicken is really tasty, ESPECIALLY when so hot you can barely ... touch it. Read more
