Relatively high end, Asian style Western food. You can tell the chefs were trained in a Western kitchen, however some corners are cut to bring the price down to about 1/2 to 2/3rds the price of that of a steakhouse. Not pretentious and good value.

We visited for the cheap oysters. Personally, I would pay for good oysters and I would pay for good food. The cheap oysters, although a good snack if you're craving the taste, are not fresh. Stopped by here with my family for dinner. This is one of many commonly-found restaurants in Toronto that serve Chinese-influenced or styled western meals. I have to admit that I found the menu rather limited in terms of options but I was pleasantly surprised when I ordered their ... Garlic Pork Chop with Tiger Shrimp and Scallops (there was one shrimp and two scallops). It was pretty good. Unfortunately, the rest of my family were not happy with what they ordered (flavour wise and portion wise). So while I am happy to provide a three star rating, my family would not. I would also note that the prices for their offering is rather on the higher end considering the portion size and quality (or lack there of from my family's point of view). I think this place is convenient for the offices in its vicinity and it brings a little bit of diversity to the neighbourhood -- but given what it offers -- there are likely better options within a reasonable drive's distance. Came here for dinner and expected to get the $100 meal for 4 as seen advertised in the newspaper. We were told that unless you called to reserve the meal before 5pm, they would not honor the deal. A little disappointed, we ended up getting the "Deluxe Dinner for Four" ... which came to $168 cash or $200 with any other form of payment - of course we opted for cash. We saw a promotion for 50 cent oysters and wanted to add it on to our meal. However, we were told that it did not apply to our meal because it was already a set and if we wanted oysters, it would be $3 a piece - we decided to pass. Not a great start to the meal. The setting itself it not bad - comfortable seating and the place looked nice and clean. They also have TVs where you can watch the game while you eat, however, it seems a little strange to me since the restaurant seemed to want to market itself as more of a higher end sit down restaurant rather than a bar. As for the food, we were started off with a lobster bisque which had much to be desired. The bisque was bland and tasteless and there was only one small piece of lobster in the soup which honestly was lacking in any of the sweet flavor of live lobster. The only part of the meal that I really enjoyed was the baked oyster. It was baked with what seemed like a mix of thousand island dressing and mayo and topped with alfalfa sprouts. The result was a fresh and tangy flavor paired with the natural sweetness of the oyster. The foie gras itself was good and had a rich buttery texture. The flavor was great but unfortunately, they didn't capitalize on the flavor and instead, put the foie gras on top of crostinis which were drenched in olive oil. The result was an overly oily appetizer. Had they laid off on the oil, the dish should have been quite good. The ribeye was a fail for me. We had requested medium rare but was given a medium cut instead. The onion rings were WAY too oily and I couldn't eat more than two pieces. The gravy did not have much flavour. The only thing I enjoyed on this plate were the veggies (mashed potatoes, red peppers and zucchini). The lobster was a little dry and not quite as sweet as I'd like - probably not fresh lobster. Again, the dish was topped with much too oily onion rings. The tiger shrimp and spaghetti was much too rich. Although the sauce did have the truffle flavor in it, I suspect it was done with truffle oil rather than fresh truffles. As well, the rest of the sauce tasted a little like diluted cream of mushroom sauce that was thickened up with corn starch. The tiger shrimps were ok. For dessert, we had "mango mousse" which was clearly mango cheesecake upon tasting it. The slice was tiny. However, I do have to say that one thing I did like about the cheesecake was that it had tiny little pieces of mango jelly incorporated into the cake which was a nice surprise. For a meal that would go for $50 a person (if paying by credit card), I would have expected much higher quality of food. Add to it the fact that their promotions seem a little misleading, I will probably not come back to this restaurant. At this price point, I would much rather go to a chain like the Keg or Milestones or even pony up a little bit extra and head to a nice steakhouse like The Octagon. Read more

Despite the nice atmosphere, average service, mildly above average food, there is one thing I have to say about this place, and that is that for the amount of money I paid, I expected MUCH better. The venue was small, but I did like the way they toasted some ... of the bread before serving it. Granted, the food was tasty, well prepared, and used fresh ingredients, but the presentation was so bad that it actually affected the taste. The soup was served with drippings on the side of the bowl (unprofessional at best), and for some reason, every single dish was topped with a random piece of broccoli, red pepper, and half a mushroom. Yes, it added some much needed colour to the plate, but for a dish like curry or braised ox tail, it was inappropriate and completely uncalled for. I would also expect for an exorbitant price of close to $25/meal, they would do the courtesy of using heated plates and setting the table a little more professionally (butter knife, etc.) - as well as giving a little more bread and maybe olive oil instead of straight up balsamic/real butter instead of the cheap little packaged ones.. What you're paying for is their 5 flat screen TVs, the comfy couch seats, fancy bowls, and the fresh ingredients. Sorry, but I can eat better for that price. In conclusion: Chinese people trying to cook asian food - okay food, fresh ingredients, average service, abysmal presentation, ridiculous price. Not recommended. Read more
