Fragrant Bakery - Scarborough, Ontario

Fragrant Bakery has a good variety of traditional Chinese baked goods. I especially like their wife cake (it isn't too sweet) and their egg tarts (way better than Egg Tart Queen) 😋. For my family and I, we usually stay in Markham when visiting the area, so it is a ... bit of a drive to get here, but well worth it. If you are looking for something specific, be sure to arrive early as possible, as they do sell out of popular items by late afternoon. My go-to bakery when I crave Hong Kong-style egg cakes. Freshly made, flaky, not too sweet and full of flavor. Their wife cake is also good. I always pick up other things like pineapple buns, peanut mochi, walnut cake...really taste like home.

Is this spot really inflation proof? So far, yes Bought 6 items and came out to just under $2 apiece. Those prices are some OG chinese bakery prices as some spots can have items like egg tarts going up to $3 each And co spidering this is probably one of the top 3 ... spots for egg tarts in the city, that’s a pretty freaking great price So with the gf tarts being said, there is another item they offer which I think is better than their egg tarts, which is their mochi. It’s super soft, chewy without sticking to your teeth ever. Loaded with fillings, regardless of type you choose and always consistent It’s a Chinese bakery, so don’t expect this amazing service, however, they have streamlined it for you to look and see and when it’s your turn, you tell them what you want and they quickly get it for you Also, on a couple side notes, cash only and the plaza looks like not much going on, but parking can be a pain, so have o be patient Great job overall! Saw some online reviews and comments stating Fragrant has the best or one of the best wife cakes (lo paw bang) In Toronto. I’m not a fan of these cakes as I had a few in my life time in NYC and around the US but the girlfriend ... is and misses the good ones found in HK. So we visited Fragrant Bakery in search of their wife cakes. Pleasantly found this is a OG bakery with decades of history and it shows because one bite of their wife cake my girlfriend was smiling and one bite for me I enjoyed this wife cake. It is not too sweet, flaky exterior layer, soft moist interior layer, and delicately delicious throughout. What a surprise that I bought a dozen to drive back to NYC with us for friends/family. my favourite Chinese bakery, their egg tarts are divine. enjoyed even better if they’re freshly out of the oven. Make sure to come early if you want to avoid lineups! They have other items that are also very good and not typically sold at Chinese bakeries including sweetheart cakes and ... different types of rice puddings. Read more
