Yamamoto Japanese Cuisine - Scarborough, Ontario

Used to eat hear all the time and customer service was great. Had dinner tonight and I cant say the same. I wanted a quick snack so I tried to order a la carte, no one came to take my order for some time. No server would make eye contact ... or acknowledge my wave. When we finally did order no drinks were brought to the table, not even water. When I paid for the meal the server tried to keep a 5 dollar tip on a 15 dollar bill. When I asked for my change the manager took his time looking through Bills to find mine. When my change was brought back it was in small coin denominations. I ate here because the sushi was decent and at a fairly cheap price. I wont hesitate to pay more at a different restaurant if it means better customer service. Read more

Take out from Yamamoto, lobster sashimi, Oyster Kussi, Teppan lobster head and legs, japanese style crab roe salad, jade roll. It's an ayce restaurant but they have chef special menu as well, more than ayce, amazing food, great quality take out, fresh lobster sashimi, you can truly taste the quality of ... the food, recommend this place. Food is good here, a bit pricey but it’s worth it. I would only come here during dinner. The food is usually fresh.... pretty standard sushi.

Though calling myself a sushi connoisseur is a step too far, I would gladly accept the title of Sushi Fan boy, or Supreme Sushi Enthusiast. Hence why when my friend with excellent taste suggested we take a trip to Yamamoto Japanese Cuisine, I jumped on the opportunity. Yamamoto is a Japanese ... all-you-can-eat restaurant located within Bridlewood Mall in Scarborough. They've gone a long way to putting together a space that's imbibed with notes of Japanese culture while maintaining a present day feel. One of the things I love about this place is how much open room there is, so unless if you're in a blind rage from hangry pains, you're not going to bump elbows with anyone. As I mentioned, I'm no AYCE nooby, so when it comes to the food selection, I'll say with confidence that I was impressed. I wouldn't say that the volume of items offered was anything abnormal, but most of the items were either delightful, or for a handful of them, amoung some of the best sushi and maki that I've had. Now for you genuine sushi connoisseurs out there, let me pre-emptively say, relax. I wasn't necessarily wowed by unprecedented freshness, or quality of meat, (though both of these were high in my opinion). Rather, what impressed me were some of the imaginative toppings paired with some of the special items. One of the notables for me was the Philadelphia maki, or the chikuwa maki. (I say "or", because I honestly can't remember which is which.) Also, a shout out to their cartilage skewers, and of course their actual sushi. There is one predictable downside of a good sushi restaurant. You guessed it; the service. Leave your Canadian presumptions of being waited on hand and foot at the door. The servers keep it real and are there to get the job done. Not much else. And heads up, by default they add tip to your bill. Yamamoto is a great place to go to enjoy some AYCE Japanese food. Great AYCE selection of sushi and sashimi, love the chef recommendation & weekend items. Good food quality, sashimi is fresh. Servers are quick & responsive. My friend enjoys their service and especially that they offer sake while dining on sushi. Highly recommend if you're craving sushi.
