One of the few places that still makes Banh Xeo and a proper Vietnamese Iced Coffee from a "Phin". Pho is a must try... A decently large bowl too!
Came for lunch today with the family. Thai Son is our go to place in Richmond and Vancouver. We find the portion size vs price is decent and service is usually fairly quick. The food has a ton of taste and is not overly oily or salty. We have not ... been disappointed coming here over the years. The fam have their usual favorites and today was no different. The kids had (#20) seafood rice noodle, the wife had (#26) beef stew, I ordered the vermicelli (#31) with a side of spring rolls (#40), and two ice coffees (#68). All the food came within 15 mins or so while everyone was still washing up. This was with the restaurant about 3/4 full. Next time I'll try and remember to take some pictures. Read more
Thai Son in Richmond has a long history of being a popular place for Vietnamese food. It is primarily authentic food, with little in the way of adaptation to other cultures. That's a good thing in my mind. The restaurant was busy, very busy. Every table was in ... use and there was a line of people waiting for a table. I wish they would take names; but the staff seem content to let the line manage its' self. It does seem to work, as we were quickly seated. Service is very fast paced. There seems to be no time for pleasantries. Our order was taken and food delivered, that's about it. Wait staff did not return to check on us and you just approach the cash register when you want to pay. Be aware: this restaurant only accepts cash. The place was not perfectly clean. As busy as it was, how could it be clean? Our table was well wiped though, and we had no problems with dirty dishes or cutlery. The food was delicious. We had porkchops and shredded pork skin on broken rice with a sunny side up egg. I also had the pork salad rolls. Everything was so tasty and well done. It's nice to find a restaurant without cutting corners by plating this dish using long grain rice. Broken rice has a distinct texture that is needed in this dish. My only concern was post-meal swelling. Too much salt? Perhaps. Or were they using MSG? In any case, those who are sensitive may want to use caution. I can say I loved my meal, and the shortcomings are minor. Well worth a visit when in Richmond. Read more
Wow!!! The shrimp, pork, and bean sprout filled Vietnamese Crepe is amazing! It's crispy on the outside and soft on the inside and huge! Great portions and fresh food. Also has all the usual Pho place staples. The egg yolk condensed milk soda was delicious too and tasted like you ... were drinking white rabbit candy. Read more
“Large” portions are now smaller with a lot less noodles but still taste pretty good
