Reviews for Gyo-O Japanese Restaurant in Richmond, British Columbia
I’ve been coming almost every year when Im in Vancouver; they are always worth a visit to Richmond! It’s a small cozy place so they can get packed very quickly so I recommend going early if you have a bigger party. Fortunately, my sister got there early and although it was was ... originally two separate tables, we were able to get a big table to accommodate all of u (6 of us) so we didn’t have to separate. The prices have gone up but I think their food is great and definitely worth it and service is always so friendly. They only accept cash or debit so prepare for either of you go! Read more
The good: - Super fun Japanese vibe interior design - Lovely and nice servers who spoke Japanese - Real Asahi draft beer with creamy head! The bad: - Sashimi were not fresh at all, some mushy fish… - Deep fried food seemed like it was reheated, not freshly fried. - Portion and size are subpar for the ... price… especially the drinks price are unreal. Value is not there. I’d come again for the Asahi draft once a while but probably won’t order much else. Read more
I had a lovely lunch of Assorted Oden at Gyo-O recently. It was a simple meal, but Oden isn't something that I see often around here so I was very happy to be able to order it at Gyo-O. There's another restaurant in Richmond that's supposed to specialize in Oden, ... and I had tried it one time but found it quite disappointing. While there was a wide variety of Oden to choose from, we weren't very impressed with the food when it arrived at our table. Oden is meant to be a hot wintertime stew but the broth that was served with our oden was not at all hot. This Oden at Gyo-O was much better. The broth was hot as it should be, and the size of the food was impressive. The tofu and daikon were both massive! Such humungous chunks of tofu and daikon. I'd had Oden in Japan not too long ago, and the daikon there was also huge. This daikon at Gyo-O was quite comparable in size. Possibly slightly larger even. If I have a craving for Oden, I don't think I'll bother searching for any other place in Vancouver to have it. I'll come straight to Gyo-O again! My friend was with me and she ordered a Tendon bento box. She said the rice texture was a bit off, and ended up pouring soup over her rice to moisten it. The tendon though, according to her was very nicely crisped. Service: Good Parking: Plentiful and free Location: #2137 - 3779 Sexsmith Rd., Richmond, BC Read more
I have been going to Gyo-O for years and somehow never thought about writing a review for these guys! It is a casual spot with Japanese eatery interior decor. This place has always been my go-to for sashimi don especially on a hot day! I also love their cold udon ... and chicken karaage. Food always come fast so if you are hungry and looking for something tasty this is the place to go! Gyo-O never disappointed me all these years (except for ramen which was okay, but then they are specialized in sashimi don so I just don't order ramen when I go there.) The portion is good, price is reasonable, and their staff is also very friendly 😊 Read more
Cute and quaint spot close to Aberdeen. Good price for a chirashi don and miso soup in Richmond. Staff was kind and patient.
