Little known middle eastern restaurant attached to a Richmond market. Service is exceptional, always came by to refill water. Food is great, they do grilled meats, rice and legume sauces. There's usually a lot of parking available, there is a multi level parking lot used by the marker and other establishments. We have been to Richmond for years and glad to find this hole in the wall Afghan restaurant. It's a small place and most people have takeouts but we decided to dine in and practically took up the entire dining area for the six of us! The food is flavorful. Good size ... portion. Summary: if you live anywhere CLOSE to Richmond, go eat here. It will be worth it. That's all you need to know. Fantastic value, and that's not even the best part! THE FOOD! THE FOOD is the best part. The roast chicken is tender and complex and lightly, perfectly toasted. The spices ... are the perfect balance, bringing out the natural flavour of the chicken but never overpowering it. There's SO MUCH of it on the plate too, and even by the end, my soul couldn't get enough of it, although stomach was unfortunately too full. I've had the mantu as an appetizer. It was okay, but it couldn't stand close to the complex, delightfully roasted chicken. It's basically like a meat dumpling in a yogurt-tomato sauce with some spices. I have not been to Afghanistan, this is probably as close as I can get. The store is small and insignificant, but just like the neighbors, the food is the opposite of everything it looks. Thr Kebab, shima are made on order, the setup is very similar to Greek, where you get ... rice and pita. You get whole wheat nann bread, chutney, chickpea with the meal. I particularly like the seasoning, it is very unique and complicated, unlike Greek or East Indian spices. I only ordered take out so I cannot comment on the tablet service. I will definitely go back. The food at this place is absolutely authentic, delicious and they offer generous portions. They bake the bread daily on the premises! You can get some authentic baked goods to take home, also. It's not the place for atmosphere, but if you want great food for a ... good price, leave the Centre and come across the street to the little diner/bakery and enjoy good food with good people.
