Kim and Ashlee’s Cakes & Cookies - Regina, Saskatchewan

BUYER BEWARE . . . If you've got a special event where you'd like to guarantee that you will have a beautiful and delicious cake to serve, I DO NOT recommend Kim & Ashlee's Sweet Ambrosia Bakeshoppe on Winnipeg St in Regina. Ordering from them is like playing Russian Roulette. ... You may get just what you ordered, which is fantastic, but the alternative with them is that they refuse to be accountable for a mistake, and would rather leave you scrambling to find a last minute replacement cake rather than make good on the order. Here are the details of our fiasco. Three cakes were ordered for my niece's 1st birthday parties (3 separate dates). The 1st was picked up and when they went to serve it on Saturday, realized it was the wrong flavour. Being it was after business hours (and they were closed for the next 2 days) and too late to make it right, they made the best of it and served the cake anyway. According to the business owner that's where they went wrong. She said they should have not served the cake and brought it back to prove it was wrong. She would not accept photographic evidence that the cake received was marble and not coconut. On the next open business day (Tuesday), the bakery was called to inform them of the mix up and try to remedy the situation and ensure the next 2 cakes scheduled for pick-up for Tues & Wed were correct. Well they were not and due to allergy requirements the cake already made for Tues could not be accepted. So the owner's solution was to blame the customer, provide no refund for the one cake received, and refuse further service, cancelling & refunding the cakes for Tues & Wed, instead of doing everything they could to make good on the error and honour the order the best they could. A refund might seem like an alright solution, but now we were left scrambling last minute to find replacements for my niece's parties. This bakery is not about building good customer relationships and would rather you just take your business elsewhere. So my recommendation is that you do that from the beginning. Read more

Poor customer service and horrible cake. Ordered frozen themed fondant cake butter pecan flavoured. Gave full description how I wanted cake to look like and emailed pictures also for reference but it turned out to be something else. They asked me to arrange for dolls which I did and when I ... went to hand over dolls, explained staff member again about the dolls and their dresses. At the time of cake delivery I was told that they don't make dresses for dolls of fondant. It's a complete NO NO for them but no one ever told me about this policy when I interacted with them thrice on this topic. 2 on the cake was broken and it was adjusted like that so that they don't have to make another one. When I showed my concerns I was told that they don't have time now and I can leave the cake and they will fix it the next day. What kind of customer service was that? My daughter's birthday was the same evening and guests were coming at 6pm. Somehow I managed to fix dolls on cake by myself and was praying that the cake should taste good but that was another disappointment. It tasted horrible with bitterest taste of pecans as they were years old. It was dry also. I can give 2 stars to the look but for taste I don't even want to give .5 stars. Will never go there again. Ordered my birthday cake from here twice the first time was fine. The second time I was supposed to have raspberry buttercream. They gave me plain buttercream that tasted like only butter we couldn't even eat it. The lady on the phone didnt seem sympathetic at all. We Called and ... asked if they would give us a refund, credit or remake it. They said they dont do credits or refunds and wouldn't remake it. All they would do was scrape off the icing and put new icing if they had time. And only if we brought it back the same day. We were going out of town and didn't have time to waste the entire day getting a cake fixed that they messed up. Will never order a cake from them again. Read more

I'm not sure why there are so many bad reviews for this place. First off, their selection is above excellent, I haven't found a bakery in Regina with as good a selection as Sweet Ambrosia. Their cupcakes are absolutely delicious, with at least a dozen flavors. My favorite is death by ... chocolate, and I don't care for chocolate. The banana split is amazing as well! I keep returning, possibly about a dozen times now, and have never had a product I regretted. If you get there late, the cupcakes can be a bit dry, but they're still delicious. I received a birthday cake from them (death by chocolate) and everyone devoured it. The customer service can be a tad slow, they always seem to be in the back with the door closed, so you always walk into an empty building, but I've never waited more than 30 seconds for service. I will not purchase from here again. After trying to serve an inedible* cake I purchased from Kim and Ashlee's, I called the store to let them know the product was not good. I was asked to return what was left of the cake and any "scraps". I brought in ... the remainder of the cake which was over 3/4 of it, and had to fill out a "return form". The form said they would contact me in 24 hours to discuss the product. They lady behind the counter said it would be more like two to three days. Instead of contacting me, they sent me a form email letting me know that they processed my payment - for a cake we didn't even eat because it was inedible AND returned. I have called twice, and emailed twice, to talk to someone and no one will get back to me. This is the second time I have purchased from this bakery with exactly the same issue, but the first time I let it go assuming it was just luck of the draw. But twice in a row...never again. The cake itself was crumbly, dry, and tasteless. The icing appeared to be coloured butter with not even a hint of sweetness to it.
