Excellent all day breakfast place in Pickering. Clean, friendly staff, great service, generous portions and coffee refills. Certainly recommend this place for a good hearty breakfast. It's now under new management and more dishes have been added to the menu.
Katherine’s was always the go to family restaurant and continues to be. The new owner, San, is very friendly and welcomes his customers. The food is delicious and I just had the beef barley soup which was second to none! The burgers were homemade and delicious. The ... cost is extremely reasonable and we will continue to enjoy their meals! Highly recommended! Read more
This place has been around for a very very long time. I used to live very close to this place and went semi-often. After many years I went back for mother days to have their breakfast. Overall this place was decent. Breakfast foods such as bacon, eggs and toast are very ... simple foods to cook and very hard to mess up. The bacon here was amazing and cooked to perfection. Eggs as well were very good. The home fries here aren’t the best, like at all. The home fries are barely seasoned and ever so slightly pan fried. There was hardly any crust or crunch to their breakfast potatoes. My mother also got a 3 egg meal and generally enjoyed her but had the same things to say about the breakfast potato. My father got an omelette and very much enjoyed his breakfast. Overall if there is one food item that could be greatly improved on, for me it would be their breakfast potatoes. If you aren’t gonna deep fry them, then at least pan fry them for some crisp. Service here wasn’t the best but it was excusable - we can here on Mother’s Day, a day where every breakfast spot is very very busy. For my eggs I ordered scrambled with cheese and unfortunately my eggs with cheese was sent along another order so I was stuck with scrambled eggs no cheese. Our initial server did take quite long to bring stuff such as more milk and cream, more napkins and we waited some tjme for our toast. We had no option but to ask another server for a few of these items and she helped out and made sure we got what we asked for in a very timely manner. Overall I had a good experience at Kathryn’s Diner. Price is very very fair especially for the quality of food and the portion sizes. I have been going here for many years and I definitely plan to go again. I would also recommend this place to others. Read more
This morning my husband and I decided to go out for breakfast and thought it would be nice to try this place. Well, sadly we will never be back. I ordered a western omelette and it said that it only came with two items- ham and onion I think it ... was. What western only comes with two items was my first thought. Below, it said that you could add peppers, mushrooms, tomatoes, salsa, etc for 75 cents. I thought, okay let’s do that. I clearly confirmed with the waitress that this particular row of items cost 75 cents in total and she said “oh yes.” Perfect! When the bill came she had charged me $1 for peppers, 0.95 for mushrooms, $1.95 for tomatoes, I skipped the salsa. When I questioned her about it her only response was “yes.” Aside from this the home fries were not hot, they were room temperature, almost cold. I had brown toast, dry as I always do when I go out for breakfast and you could tell that it was not fresh and had been sitting around. When the waitress asked how our breakfast was, I said that it was so so, not that great and she just turned and walked away. She did not even ask why I gave that answer nor what was wrong with the breakfast. Normally, when you sit your coffee cup at the end of the table it implies that you need a refill, but that did not happen. The only time a refill was offered was after our meal was done and she collected our plates. This was my experience and we will not be back. Read more
