Cosmic Charlie’s Cafe - Peterborough, Ontario

Have always loved this restaurant, and have never once disliked or complained about the food or the experience, but I will not be returning. Ordered the Pad Thai as i do most of the time, my girlfriend immediately noticed that it smelt very bad, I was hesitant to admit that ... it smelt terrible as I have ordered this dish many times and always been more than satisfied. But after eating a couple pieces of beef I could not continue. The beef was definitely expired. I am also not a picky person at all. I enjoy pretty much any food that is edible. I explained this all to our waiter, but when he brought us the bill I asked why the price of my dish had not been discounted, he stated “well you did eat half of it.” I had in fact eaten less than a quarter of it. I decided at that moment to not press any further and to simply not return to this restaurant which had been a favourite of mine for several years. Blatant disregard for the quality of the food and also the customers wellbeing, as I was served beef that had clearly gone bad. Food was great although I did not like too much feta cheese on the salad. The Black Bean Chicken was flavourful, salty, & was my favourite part of the dish. Great customer service. I do have to say though - The Most Expensive Entrees I've Ever Seen in Peterborough. It's way too ... expensive here just for a regular entree meal. It costs $26.95 for the entrees. Cosmic Charlie’s is always a delight. Everyone who goes should have the green curry mussels, they are to die for. Although I didn’t like my mojito the servers were wonderful and got me a different drink. It made a big difference that the server came and asked what I didn’t ... like about it, not in a rude way whatsoever, but to learn what could be done better in the future - nowadays in the service industry I don’t think we see those steps taken often and it was appreciated. So disappointed. We ordered 2 dishes for takeout. Cost us $45. The pad Thai was dry, no flavour, one small piece of chicken that was so dry and zero flavour. The noodles were all clumped together and weird lengths. It was ready so quickly but absolutely zero effort put into ... this dish.The Changmai was ok. Very saucy but nothing special. Our friends joined us, they had been there last year. After looking at reviews we were excited to go! When we arrived we were greeted by a young very shy young man. We thought this will be OK. Turns out he was very very inexperienced. He took our orders in a ... very confusing way. He took our cocktail orders and then asked if we'd be ordering more cocktails? We replied maybe but we'd have the first ones now. He later confessed he really didn't know how to make cocktails. Two of us found them un drinkable. Oh well....at least the food will be great, or so we thought. It wasn't. It was mediocre at best. Perhaps there had been some family tragedy, the place seemed unfriendly and depressing. The server after confessing he didn't really know his way around the bar should have taken the drinks off the bill...he didn't.
