We've gone there a few times recently however did not stay to eat- the first time or two, we left because the place smelled very strongly of bleach, and they were vacuuming around the tables where people were eating. And, because they didn't have an item on the menu ... that online stated they did. (and that's what we had our hearts set on having.) We thanked them for our beverages and politely told them we really were craving that item and we would come back another time. This wknd, we wanted a late brunch, and decided to give it a second try. The place was clean. The hostess/server was friendly. However, it had a fairly strong bleach smell. The french toast was wonderful and the breakfast tacos hit the spot. Food is great and prices are good and service is great. Been to a lot of restaurants in penticton for breakfast, this is the best and nothing else compares. No idea how anybody can give this place a bad review.

Oh my gosh, I'm so glad I got to have breakfast at Shades! The coffee was exactly what you'd expect from a well known diner. It was perfect. I had the huevos rancheros and they were excellent. The refried beans were so tasty! My partner had the French toast and the slices ... were almost 2 inches thick! He said they were so good, but could have used more syrup. The server was really busy, and wasn't able to get him more syrup (or refill my coffee). That was the only downside, but like many other places, being short-staffed and super busy certainly wasn't her fault. I will definitely make a stop in again if I travel through Penticton! Read more

By far one of the worst Monte Cristo sandwiches I've ever eaten. Had ppl rave about the Monte Cristo sandwich at this place , do we decided to give it a try. Well the bread was plain, thin and sandwich lacked flavor and was cold. Won't be going ... back. Read more
