Hu Tieu Mi Gia - Ottawa, Ontario

Other Vietnamese places tend to focus on Pho and usually just put a bunch of non-Pho stuff together and call it 'hu tieu'. This place, however, has hu tieu as their star dish (hence the name) and damn isn't it so good. Their stir fries are decent too, a bit ... on the expensive side but hey, you get what you paid for. Though my first time having a pho noodle soup, I knew it's one of the best in this city from its taste. The boss is also super nice, teaching me a lot about how to cook the broth. I'll still come next time I visit Ottawa.

By far, this is my favourite pho place in Ottawa, including the highly competitive Chinatown district. The chicken and beef broths here are home-made daily (not too salty, for those of us on restricted diets) and the attentive service by the owner and his family is always excellent. I've been trying to find a good Viet place for a very long time. I've Vietnamese and I'm very picky about my Pho. This place has the best Pho broth I've every had in Ottawa. The customer service is amazing and the owner has so much passion and knowledge over ... what he makes and offers to his customers. I would HIGHLY recommend everyone go and check this place out. This is one of my favourite restaurants, and I can always depend on a high level of flavour in the meals here. I especially love ordering a large bowl of wonton soup (which I've never liked at other places, but this one is so flavourful), and a grilled beef banh ... mi (Vietnamese submarine sandwich). The wontons are always fresh tasting, the broth is savoury, and I crave this like no other soup. The subs are great; the bread is always soft and warm. I highly recommend trying the lotus leaf rice dish, and the crispy noodle stir fries as well. I love this place! Read more
