Viet Taste Restaurant - Ottawa, Ontario

The service is great but the food quality is just average. The noodles are crispy which is great. However, it tasted bland and the meat wasn't tender. The sauce is also lacking so it feels a bit dry. The Google reviews are a bit overrated judging from this dish.

I almost feel bad writing this review because I used to love this place and I don't know what happened. Something has changed. It was my birthday last night and we went for a family dinner because we have lots of good memories there. I found the Pho to be ... pretty tasteless. One of my companions even noted it seemed watered down or something. My wife didn't even want to eat her Pad Thai, she said it had a strange bitter aftertaste. Finally, its a small thing, but there were no customers, no music and with the one staff member sitting there the entire time 8 feet away... it was so quiet and awkward - he was clearly listening to our entire conversation. I asked if they had music (they used to) and he said "no, we prefer a quiet, contemplative ambiance". Whatever. We wanted a nice leisurely dinner but with the food disappointing and the staff loitering intrusively, ultimately just wanted to leave. Very good! I went here with my beautiful wife when we were both starving in the cold Ottawa weather and this place blew us away... The food was made very well and was also very filling. We ordered the large Pho and could barely finish it even though we shared the ... bowl. We also got the spring rolls and overall the food was excellent. The tea was very nice as well, I highly recommend it. The service and atmosphere were terrific also with very accommodating workers who were very polite and pleasant to be around. Finally, the price of the food was extremely reasonable. All in all we had a very large serving of food and with tax and tip it came out to about $25. Highly recommend you check it out! Read more

Outside of Chinatown, this is the best Pho spot in the city! It’s a clean restaurant which isn’t always the case so it is worth pointing this out. The older man that was working our table was such a great guy. Always there when you needed something but also happy a ... great personality. I loved the amount of vegetables that were giving in the rice dish that I had. It was really good and I will definitely order that mean again. The place is very clean and quaint. Cleanliness was maintained throughout the restaurant. Service was pretty fast and good as well. We tried the S5 and S4 and the shrimp wontons. Quite flavorful soups, I must say, I was not impressed with the spice level. It did say it ... was spicy on the menu. I suppose it wasn’t as spicy for me.
