I've been looking forward to The Soup Guy, but unfortunately it didn't live up to the expectations. The sandwiches were ok, and the soup (Jozef's Chicken Paprikash Slovak Soup) was lacking in flavor. The best part was the chocolate chip cookie. I would definitely recommend having one, or two. The decor and ... atmosphere are nice and cozy. I might come back to try different soups. I don't get it. $30 for two small soups, two grilled cheese sandwiches, and two waters. I was looking forward to trying their soup, but the ones we ordered (tomato pesto, french onion) tasted like what you'd make at home when you're completely phoning it in. Bouillon cubes in boiling water, ... chopped veggies, heat. The onions in the french onion soup weren't even caramelized. You can get good soup almost anywhere and I really didn't expect mediocre soup at a dedicated soup place. We asked them to give the grilled cheese sandwiches a little more grilling, which they did after we declined their offer to microwave them instead, but there wasn't much improvement. Read more

Been here twice now, and both times not disappointed. I had recently had oral surgery, and the staff immediately offered to puree my chosen soup… which made the experience feel even better(it was my first outing since the surgery)… Back to the food… it really lived up to the other reviews posted ... here… best soup in Ottawa! I must say that I was disappointed, all the great reviews written I really thought it would have been better. I got a chicken noodle, had to play it safe the first time. It's a soup and sandwich place done right. There is not a huge menu, so they can concentrate on flavour and service, both of which was excellent. 6 or so soups and the same number of sandwiches, plus a few salad options are on offer. We tried two of the ... soups and both were a treat, with very deep, rich flavours. Overall a great lunch, with smiling, pleasant staff with a product to match. Will return when in Ottawa. Read more
