Shawarma Deluxe - Ottawa, Ontario

Not only does this place have the best garlic sauce ever, great pricing, and high quality food (even late at night), the people that work here are amazing. Last week I forgot my purse in their restaurant, while I was frantically trying to find it for a couple days I realized ... that I might have left it at Shawarma Deluxe. So 3 days after losing it I gave them a call and found out they had been keeping it safe for me in the back. Cash only, ATM is available inside for 3 dollar fee. I chose this spot over Milano next door because it had a sign “Best Garlic Sauce in Ottawa.” I have to strongly disagree. The potatoes tasted mashed they were so soft, and the chicken shawarma I got does nothing for ... me. The man serving me was friendly, but that’s the only positive thing I can say about this place. food is ok..what bothered me was the ethics of the guys who work there. Depending on who's working, they would charge you a difference price for the same exact sandwich. And when you confront them about it, that particular worker would either bargain or refuse to ... serve you. Maybe that's why they accept cash only? Also, I overheard one of the workers say that they marinate their Shawarma meat in alcohol(red wine,) so if you're adverse to alcohol for personal or religious reasons, I would avoid this place for food, particularly Shawarmas. DO NOT GO! This place is a dump on the inside with old ingredients and bad quality meat. The seats inside are ripped up and covered in colored duct tape... Everything is covered in dust, the ingredients are as far from fresh as possible, the meat is fatty and the ... garlic sauce is trash. This place is an embarrassment to Ottawa Shawarma shops and should be closed. Read more

I was here last week while walking around downtown. This place had a few customers waiting when I got there. The person at the counter was taking his time but was quite polite. The platter was very big and I was starting to get full half way through. The garlic ... potatoes was decent. The beef shawarma was quite moist and tender. The chicken pieces were pretty moist. This is not the best but not bad either. Unfortunately, I was really disappointed after finding out that they don't take debit. They have an ATM machine but will set you off $2!
