Ahora - Ottawa, Ontario

Thank you so much restaurant Ahora for feeding me this absolutely delightful dish since more than 20 years. I am always a big fan and recommend newcomers to order my favorite: -enchiladas mixta, with the side of salad ( ensalata) and black beans + extra sour cream ( crema) & + extra ... guacamole (avocado). This enchiladas mixta have 3 enchiladas, one beef( carne), one chicken ( pollo), and one vegetarian ( veggies) . Then from the sauce bar grab the green sauce , and fresh cilantro, pico de gallo( spicy tomatoes) , raw diced onions, and sliced green spicy jalapeños , add it all at the top of this beautiful, tasty, remarkable mexican dish. Drink an exotic flavored soda with it, and a peice of cake if in the mood. Thank you so much , i always order the same thing , its just too good . A nice little Mexican restaraunt making authentic mexican food is hard to come by in Ottawa. They have a salsa bar with a bunch of homemade salsas (that are really good) along with extra condiments like onions and cilantro for your food. I ordered the carne asada plate and was left ... pretty disappointed. It’s unfortunate that they are doing so many things well, but I was served a steak that was cooked basically well done, and was either cooked from frozen or was reheated from another day. The steak was so dry and chewy that I could barely eat my tacos, i’ve had carne asada in Mexico and Arizona, I don’t even think it was marinated. I paid $30+ for lunch and the portion sizes were great, but unfortunately this ruined the whole meal. Such a simple thing that could go a long way. If you couldn't tell, it was so good I forgot to take a picture for my review. I LOVE the way they run the restaurant. I love that you pay before you get the food so you can get out of the restaurant as soon as you're done eating and that ... you don't have to wait for other tables to be served. The food comes out of the kitchen so fast and the staff are able to service the whole place really quickly too. I had the chicken taco tacos with rice for a side and was absolutely blown away by the flavlur of the chicken. I also do not love raw tomatoes but they were so good on the taco. The rice was also really flavourful and such a large portion too. Absolutely love that I came across Ahora, and I will absolutely be back in the future. The enchiladas looked phenomenal so I know I'll be here exploring the full menu. Read more

I had Enchiladita with chicken and steak. It was delicious and perfect portion for myself. The restaurant has really cute interior design. Also their self-bar is clean and very well organized, and has various options. I will visit again for sure.

Great spot for mexican/Tex Mex and drinks in an authentic feeling setting. Service is friendly and portions, value, and flavors are good. Tacos were decent, nothing in particularly stand out for me, but their wet burrito was excellent. Major bonus points for their salsa bar!
