Chahaya Malaysia is an Ottawa gem. The food is always phenomenal. The freshness, quality and taste is unmatched. Soy chicken is always a must because it's simply the best. I love the curry chicken as well (amazing flavour and spices). Chicken satay is also a regular order for me here. ... Always have to finish it off with some teh tarik, the tea is sooooo delicious. I don't know what I'll do with myself when it goes 😭 Read more
Exceptional service and great food! The staff were very friendly and helpful, although they gave us the wrong type of rice their attentive eyes spotted the mistake and quickly gave us what we ordered with no extra charge. They were very honest with the portions, making sure we did not over ... order, and basically had our best interests in mind. I got the "Beef Rendang" and it had three stars, and it was absolutely perfect for me, very nice numby and burning sensation, and pretty worth for the quality of food. For most people, I would recommend the singular or two star symbols because my friends thought it was too spicy. The ice kacang is very unique and delightful, the exact type of dessert I would want after a spicy dinner, its similar to shaved ice but in a different style, if you have extra room in your stomache Id definetely grab one to share. My only complaint is that there aren't any pictures on the menu to see what I would be ordering. Of course, they list the ingredients, but having a picture would be very helpful. Also, I would suggest you reserve a table because they were fully booked and we were lucky enough to land a spot because a table had just finished. I definitely recommend this spot, and I'll most likely come back again if I am in the area! Read more
All the dishes we tried were okay. The quality and quantity does not match the high prices. Dishes do not come with rice, charging $3 for a bowl of rice is absurd. Most people will order rice anyways, just bake it into the dish's price. Lamb skewers 5/10 - overcooked and ... dry, not much flavor. Do not recommend. Indonesian beef Curry 7/10 - curry was aromatic and definitely a good medium hot. Beef was overcooked and dry. Chef's jumbo shrimp special 7/10 - the flavor of this dish was pretty nice. Can't really say the shrimp were jumbo. Sauce was plentiful. Shrimp was cooked perfectly. Overall would not return to this restaurant. Price does not justify their quality and quantity. Read more
Some of the best food I've eaten a long time. I'd never eaten Malaysian good prior to this visit. The food was so carefully prepared and flavourful. The spice levels were just right and best of all we felt fantastic afterwards. We got a second meal to eat the day ... following . Will definitely repeat! Also our server was wonderfully attentive and knowledgeable. Read more
This restaurant serves both Malaysian and Indonesian dishes. It has been around for a while, and we have been there a good number of times as well, over the last two decades or so - and not without good reason. We had the opportunity of going there recently after a ... break, and were happy to see that the quality of their food continues to remain the same. Their menu is varied, and the food they serve, be that Malaysian or Indonesian, is of a most delectable quality. The quantities served are also ample, generous and fairly priced. And the tea they serve at the end, is the cherry on the cake. The ambience is worth a notable mention. It is the coziness of the place that adds an extra flavor to the overall experience. The servers are friendly, alert and very professional. There is ample parking in the premises. Highly recommended. Read more
