Babbo’s Cucina - Ottawa, Ontario

My husband and I have been regulars at Babbos for 3 years. We went back last week and we were disappointed not only by the service, but also by the food. It appeared to us as though the restaurant is under new ownership as none of the familiar ... faces were seen, including the maître d. Our favourite pasta, tagliatelle with chicken, mushrooms and dried tomatoes was lacking in flavor and short on the previous silky pesto cream sauce. The serving staff were young, inexperienced and lacked the sophistication and finesse of the previous more mature staff. Unfortunately, we will no longer be patrons of the restaurant as this last visit was seriously lacking in all of the important high notes previously achieved by the chef and staff. Read more

Coming here for my birthday was a treat from my best friend and it was a total surprise. What a wonderful surprise, indeed. Tucked away in a strip mall called The Mews, is this cozy Italian restaurant. I had Mista salad and my friends ordered Caesar salads. ... We also had Calamari and Zucchini for starters and both are light and crispy to the bite. If you find yourself on this side of town, visit Babbos and make an ordinary day, special. Read more

Discovered a lovely gem here. It was difficult to make a selection as everything on the menu looked appetizing. We finally decided on the Tagliatelle Dello Chef & the Linguine Pescatore and we not disappointed. You can really tell attention to detail in the preparation as everything ... was cooked to perfection. The service was spot on and all staff were amazing. They were fully booked when I phoned, but fortunately called back right away after a cancellation. The service was very busy but friendly and competent. Our bottle of red wine didn't appear to my tastes but was drinkable. The salads we chose were delicious and large, the highlight of the meal! ... Complemebtary focaccia was scrumptious. Our main courses had varied ratings, including the Vitello Babbos special (disappointing mix of tastes) and the salmon pasta (excellent sauce). The service was excellent and the food was exceptional. We each started with a salad which was accompanied by warm bread. I had the veal, stuffed with prosciutto, shrimp and goat cheese, covered in a mushroom cream sauce. Absolutely delicious! The portion was quite large so I'll be enjoying ... leftovers tonight. My husband had the rack of lamb which was cooked to perfection. We look forward to going back and exploring the other items on their menu. Read more
