This place used to be good, but I suspect it is a franchise now run by a very cheap owner, or a very cheap chain run by a very cheap manager. The change seemed to happen a few years ago when covid hit. That's when they started doing the predispensed candy ... you are obligated to buy a fixed amount of in small comtainers of (which thank God they changed and reverted back to help yourself). But, when you're spending good money on some of the more expensive ice cream/frozen yogurt/sorbet in the city, they should be allowing sampling as they used to. My favorite part of menchies used to be going in and trying a small half-spoon sample of each flavor to know what I liked. And I wanted that same experience for my kids. Then, I'm getting my favorite 2-3. Now, they guard the spoons behind glass at the cashier, the guy working the desk always watches you like a hawk, and they make it completely underwhelming and rob you of the experience. In fact, when I asked, he said sampling is no longer allowed. (Please tell me.hpw sampling from your own spoon, from your own bowl, has any impact on hygene). Anyway, menchies won't last. People want to enjoy the experience, which is one of the best things. When you go to a place that's about serving yourself, and choosing a flavour etc; samples should be a given. Even Baskin Robbins or any other ice cream place I know of will still let you sample. And fyi, an update, I asked the cashier why it changed, and he said because of covid. But ironically, they changed the candy dispensers back the way they used to be prior to covid; but they don't allow samples the way they did...? So logically, it's not about covid, it's about shrink-flation and their bottom dollar now. Covids not the issue, it's about their fiscal bottom dollar of that couple of bucks it costs them a week to let customers taste what they are buying. (And if you haven't gone to menchies, fyi it's not cheap and easy to overspend, you don't want flavors that are gross) So so cheap of them. And a perfectly good way to ruin what used to be a good business. Read more
Holy sugar explosion. Kiwi Kraze was a much better place to get frozen yogurt. A Canadian company, using Canadian milk based yogurt. Overall better quality 'toppings', less sugary junk and better tasting...but their location wasn't great and they didn't have the cute spoons that Menchie's has.
First time taking the family here and already can't wait to come back! Our kids loved the self serve options, definitely a worth while family treat 100% Friendly staff explained to us how it worked and we went nuts from there! A must visit ! #dessert#froyo
We were here between 7pm and 7:30pm on a Saturday. It was nice to see a blend of all ages enjoying a delicious frozen treat. As soon as we entered, there was a super cheerful welcome greeting, asking us if we had been there before. They explained how everything ... worked, and off we went. They have little tasting cups, so you can try the flavour(s) first, to make sure you like it. There are sugar free options as well. Moving along to the toppings. From gummie sharks to Nanaimo bars, fresh fruits and whipped cream, there is definitely something for everyone. In my group we had a pre-teen, a teenager, someone in their 20's and me! They were all having so much fun creating their own sundae. Priced by weight, it is very costly at the cash. Wow. It was a good experience, just too much $$$. Large clean unisex/family washrooms. We all enjoyed this very much. Individual tastes, satisfied!! #localguide Read more
Food: There are so many toppings like sprinkles and bubble tea popping bubbles, and many flavours too, which I like! Service: You get your bowl/cup and put the frozen yogurt in it, then toppings, then pay for the amount the cup weighs after all that. Atmosphere: Very colorful inside, and there's even a ... chalkboard!(if you bring your own chalk) Read more
