Erling’s Variety - Ottawa, Ontario

Always a lovely, sophisticated but friendly spot to have a bite. Had a whiskey sour, with an interesting but tasty twist. We tried one of everything on the menu and had some oysters too. The oysters to start were from PEI and very fresh. I really enjoyed the Falafel with lamb and the Gnoccho ... (pictured). Also, the duck tartare had a nice flavour. Really, none of the dishes were disappointing. Overall it was very expensive for small dishes, but the flavours were unique and if you're looking for a special night out with something different on the menu, this is a good choice. Read more

Delicious food, everything was prepared well. The portion was very small for the prices, (2” cubic short rib for $48, three scallops for $36) even for tapas style. The red wine we had were way below average in our opinion (could be due to happy hour selection?). We enjoyed the ... oysters, scallops dish and thought the dessert was excellent. Food is absolutely stellar as always. I love sitting at the bar and watching the show unfold. I ended up picking a few things on the menu that I otherwise wouldn’t have eaten from watching them prepare it. One very minor thing, if it is really cold out (like -15C or ... below) it might be chilly in there. Not a terrible thing but some of the seats/tables were warmer than others. Had a fantastic experience! The wait staff were kind enough to create a romantic table as a surprise for when we arrived. They even had my favorite music playing! The chef has great taste in music. I love how the restaurant is set up to see into the kitchen. It's great ... to see professionals do their thing. The staff were pleasant and efficient, and as each dish arrived, they exceeded our expectations. Fresh and delicious, each plate was made perfect. My favorite dish of the night was the scallops. Wonderful experience for solo dining. Sit at the bar and enjoy watching these chefs do what they love. The food was delicious and unique. Hush puppies, Brussels and my favorite the artic char flatbread- all wonderful.
