The wife and I were in Ottawa recently for a weekend and came across the Clocktower pub restaurant. Whenever I visit an establishment for the first time like this one, I go straight for their hamburger on the menu and that becomes my first impression of quality. Our server, a ... young lady named Evelyn, took our order. After a pleasant introduction and quick wit conversation from our server, I asked Evelyn about the burgers as there were three to choose from. While she mentioned that i could not go wrong with any of them as they were all prepared well by their cooks, she leaned towards the Supreme Burger as a suggestion, making the smart comment that if I really loved burgers, then "go big or go home". I was not disappointed, the burger was delicious and a solid portion size. The restaurant was clean and comfortable, noise level was very good as I was able to converse without straining my voice or ears to listen, and the attenence to our meal was excellent. I was here for the first time to attend a meeting. I ordered the Fish & Chips which is served with a house slaw. All was good until I took a bite from the house slaw - I had to spit it out as it had gone off. Then I ... smelled it and it smelled rancid and using the cutlery on it, it was slimy. I passed to others in the group to confirm that that house slaw was bad which they confirmed. I passed this on to the waitress - who 'apologized' and said that she will pass it to the kitchen. She never got back until it was time for bills - when I asked about the house slaw, she said 'oh, I passed it to the kitchen'. My bill came full price and there was no replacement house slaw. So I was made to pay for Clock Tower serving me spoilt food. My complaints were essentially disregarded. Would I recommend or be back here? No, I strongly do not recommend it! Read more

When we arrived for “brunch” around 12N only to find that this place wasn’t busy at all (maybe a couple of other tables?), which is surprising to me given it was a nice day and the area was fairly vibrant with pedestrians. Food and beers were decent. The highlight for me ... was the addition of blue cheese to the buffalo cauliflower! Our server was quite good and a bonus of a good personality! Overall, a really good experience. The biggest negative is the parking. There is only street parking and some days that can result in a decent walk - which, depending what you consume, might be a good thing! ;) Read more
